formed to provide a membership-

Associative president, Jim Kunkel of
Belmont, said that the organteation s.

United B's continue to- win
Restaurant scores upset victory

As the GMSL regular schedule enters its '
final round we notice several ,positional
changes that will undoubtedly produce
some super slowpitch over the next few
weeks.
In the "B" divsion, 3effery's Cobras look
as though they are headed towards their
second divisional trophy in as many years.
Howeveroabaserle on the =predictable
outcomes in the past weekend's Pirates
Tournament, let's not give it to them we
Five points separate the next fiveleams.
The next three, weeksOf play within their
own division should, prOduce some in-
teresting outcomes.
In "A' division, the three top teams all
have a good shot at the divisional honors,
with the Bulldogs having the inside track.
While the Restaurant team has their eyes
set on hammering the Bulldogs, they also
await the outcome of the two games yet to
be played bdween the Bears and the
'Bulldogs.
• -All three of the above teams should be
aware of the Oldtimer team, who are
capable Wang any and all of them. Al.sa
watch out for two teams, Coyotes and
C4r1cisv who have shown tremendous
improvement over the past several weeks_
They both have adequate defence and

Not to be leftout, the Optimist' s and
Garb&Gear, although inconsistent at
times, are both capable of putting together
the big game. Tm looking forward as I

round qf play. This is the preview of our
post season activity.
Now to update the scores around the
league. Carlow pounded Chanipoo 12-2 and
Local 1863 7-1. The Goderich Restaurant
team came up 'with three solid per-
formances this week, disposing of Cedar
Ledge 15-0, Goderich Elevators 17-5 and
the Goderich Bears 16-6.
-Coyotes hammered Meneset 30-10 but
later in the week dropped a 17-11 decision to
the Renegades. The Port Albeit Bulldogs
took a stranglehold on fit' plebe with
victories over the. Renegades, 174 and
Bluewater 15-3.
The Optimists drilled Meneset 15-6 and
later edged the GOderieh Elev&tors 11-7
while 'GarbdrGear dropped a 15-9 decision
to Tickers. The Goderich Bears -defeated
Cedar Lodge 11-4 and the Cobras downed
the Oletimers 12-7 to finish off the week.
At the league level this week, Cedar
Lodge, Meneset and the Elevators all
received $10 ,score sheet fines. while the
Coyotes, Elevators and Optimists each
suffered $20 fines for failing to supply
umpires.

The Goderich 'United Bs Soccer team
continued their unbeaten streak by
defeating Port Elgin 4-2 in a game played
Sunday.
The weather did not play a factor in the
Bs victory. They won by quickness, short
passes, good. head balls and a lot of shots
on net which pleased coach Fred
Schoemaker.
Eric hfitchell started off the rally with a
blistering shot at about the 27th minute
mark of the first half.
hi the second half Port Elgin tied the
score at 1-1 en a goal by Bensen Hamner
Mike' (Woody) Wedlock gave the Bs the
lead on a perfectly executed goal from 15
yards out. The Bs increased their lead by 3
-1 on a goal by Randy Stoddart, the result
of a corner kick by Wedlock. Steven
Walters increasedthe lead on a rebound to
gate the Bs a comfortable lead.
Port Albert managed to score one more
goal but it was too late to overcome the Bs
two point lead. The Bs were missing one of
their top siniters, Dick Schoemaker who is
out for the rest of the season with a leg in-
jury-

United A's register fifth win
in 2-0 victory over St. Thomas
St. Thomas was the scene last Saturday
of the Goderich United A's fifth win of the
season_ The 2-0 win allowed United to
maintain its first place standing in the
London and District Soccer League second
division, with a five win -one tie record.
The game opened slowly with each team
checking closely and settling into the heat
and humidity of the day. Few,good scoring
opportunities occurred in the first hall and
it ended scoreless.
As the second half opened things soon
began to change. • United's very well
conditioned team sesta -began to out run
and out play St. Thomas. Goderich's
fullbacks virtually shut down the attack of
the opposition and the midfield quickly
began to control the game.
Goderich's first goal came at about the
55th minute of the match when Bruce
Melick pulled down a bouncing ball at the
St. Thomas 18 yard line, moved to the right
vt.
and drove,a hard shot into the short side of
the net.
St. 'Thomas was quickly wilting and
Goderich continued to press. At ap-
proximately the 70th minute of play, Mark
Bellinger hit a high shot which fte St.
Thomas goalie bobbled. Mark was soca
behind the goalie where he picked up the
ball and quickly put it into the hat* of the
net. tiles canal mark. the win secure s St.
Thomas was no longer able to penetrate
the Godercih defence. e. •
This was the A teams first game in three
weeks and the team has quickly recap-
tured it winning ways. Hard work,
dedication and quality players has made
this the best United team in years.
Goderich is now the team to beat in the
second division. United's next game is
Sunday, July 25 at 6 p.m., when they host
Woodstock. Come out and support the
team.
Squirt Soccer team
continues win streak
The - Goderich Squid Soca& Travel
Team continued its winning ways in the
past two weeks with two decisive wins. On
June, 29,' they swamped 'an oideliesed
Seaforth 11-0. Scoring the Goderich goals
were Jamie Stanley with four, Todd
Papple With four, Chad Papple with two
and Jason Duckworth with one.
Last Fititkia, heather apposition was
encountered at St. Columban. Goderich
took control in the second half to win 6-1.

In Squirt House League action on June,
30, the first half of the league schedule was
completed with the first place Bombers
beating third place Raiders 1-0, on a goal
by Chad Papple. Vikings .started the
second hall of the Sehedide •go ad foI-m
with a 2-1 win over the Bombers. Jason
Duckworth scortartuice farthe whiners
with Sam Hosack replying for the Ham-
bers.
. Last Wednesday, ,the Vikings continued
to win with a 3-2 victory over the Raiders.

winners. Robbie Davies and Trisha Rumig
scored for the Raiders.
In ' the second game the Bombers
defeated the Raiders 3-0. Sam Hosack,
