Here we are enjoying July
and I can't believe that -June
has gone!
This year has flown by
leaving very .few traces of
having . been here. Hasit
been too quiet'or too hectic?
When I get)tgne - I'll have to
thilpk about, it. I only know
that 'I have watched the
weather maps since January
and the reports were unreal.
It brought back memories of
the winter of '46-47 which
had been "the worst in eight-
some years" -the papers
said. But this year it stretch-
ed the cold a month or two
longer. In contrast Florida
e had the best winter in many;
many years. °
The nice thing about it, so
butthinking of how everyone
kept saying we should fly
down instead of driving, I
could see many things 1 had
better take home while I had
the car.
So out, went -the suitcases
and I repacked everything in
plastic bags. Now that's the
way to carry things. You can
pack in twice as much stuff -
things you .don't know why
you brought them down in
the first place so now you
stuff the whole back end and
there is still room for more.
The soft pack I call it.
You hm.+ nutting things in-
to the car and rearranging
them for hours. Try it some
time - you can spend days do-
ing it. Anyway I just hoped
everything I might need was
many are now saying, "Oh, packed in last, on top, within
it wasn't too bad"! ! ! So, let's reach. So. I slammed down
just -hope -it won't ----be
repeated for • many, many
years.- I can't really com-
plain, as it has been fine
since we have been home
with' very little cold or rain.
So I hope to enjoy every
minute of it. Life is too short
to waste it with complaints. I
} like to look on the sunny side.
Returning home this year,
waspretty- hectic at times.
Usually, I spent two or three.
days packing the car and
can I ever PACK it! This
year I packed and unpacked
FOUR times. When I started
I• had three big bags ready
were out of circulation!
We sat on the side of the
road for nearly two hours
before a. trooper came in
sight and saw me signal. We
were taken to a service sta-
tion the only one within fif-
teen or -twenty rniles. There
were no otihe • iu1`dings and
the village was two or three
miles away. So we sat' there
and " sweltered while the
young man honed around -
when hehad time - to find us -
a new motor.
Later we were taken to a
motel nine miles north and
were there three . days. ti My,
son, Doug, had, driven the
three hundred miles to make
sure we were all right and
hopedthe garage people
could take care of things.
After three days he phoned
and said "You're corning
back home" and I unpacked
mycar again peeking
Doug's to the brim and we
were nearly three weeks in
Venice before we found
another car and started the
journey again. -The first day,
having to stop and dispose of
the Pontiac, was almost
—the, "lid'-'- -put .say-paintings._-wasted..._The --second day I
neatly on the back 'seat and
was ready to take off. The
car had been serviced for a
long trip - was running
beautifully so • no worry
there. We stayed with Doug
and Madeline over the
weekend and started early
Monday morning for home -
for Canada.
Three hundred mileslater,
the engine started making a
racket - I headed -for the out-
side lane ..and BANG - no

We spent three days in Wind-

Now I am putting the
whole trip out of my mind.
I've met a lot of friends who
