Could have been the whiskey -might have
been the Bear hunt! Whatever it was,
Tickers Brickers don't care, as they
became the first Goderich team to defeat
the Bears.
Rumour has it that several Tickers
playerswoke up in Grand Bend the next
morning -must have been the party!
The Ticker team, playing sound
defensive ball, jumped out to a 3-0 lead in
the bottom of the third as Mark Lassaline,
Bob Boak and Mark Whet crossed the'
plate on hits by Dave`'Blacker and
Bowen.
This must have pulled the Bears away
from the honey jug, as they scored three in
the fourth and added two more in the top of
the fifth to take a:tlead.
_Tickers, sensing a tremendous party in
the making, tied it up in the bottom of the
fifth, scoring Lee Fry and Mark Lassaline,
then took a 6-5 lead in the sixth as Ken
Bowen crossed the plate with two out.'
The top of the seventh will long be
remembered, as the leader of the pack. Ed
Mannering came close to hitting three
pitches but bought a 2-4 instead. _Mike
Lajuenesse flied out followed by a John
Anderson walk. The gloves flew as Bill
Wedlock flied out to end the inning and
preserve the Ticker upset.. Hats off to the
boys from Tickers for a job well done.
Another story to be highlighted this week
is the strong perfromance of the Club Grill
Oldtimers who made it six wins in a row by
defeating the Elevators 7-4, Bluewater 21-8
and Champco 14-0 this week. For a team
that finished in second, place of the 'B'
division last year, they are playing fine
ball in, '21.". division this year, sporting a 9
and 3 record.
In other action around the league,
Optimists dropped a close 5-2 decision to
Tickers, but bounced back to edge Local
1863 by a score of 10-8 and ti Cobras 7-7.
The Goderich Restaura t team con-
tinues to improve as they be t Tickers and
Local 1863 by identical score 18-3. The
Goderich Bears hammered Champco 23-0
in five while the Bulldogs defeated Cedar
Lodge 8-2.
Carlow, moved up one more position this
week, beating the Renegades 13-4 and
Bluewater 16-3.
Local 1863 and the Bears were each
assessed $10 fines for failing to properly
complete and submit score sheets this
week. Team reps are remindedof the
meeting on Monday, July 5, at 9 p.m.
