Business of a routine nature was discussed and two new members were initiated into the auxiliary, Mrs. Irene Ouellette and Miss. Anne Feagan. Mrs,. Mabel Cummings was presented with her 25 year membership pin by Kay McAstocker. Cheryl MacLeod, who was. absent at installation time, was in- stalled as an executive member by President Scruton. Birthday greetings were extended to Kay Bell, Ruth Leonard, Eva Summers and Mary Clairmont. Anniver- sary greetings were extend- ed to Heidi Beadle and An- nette Stemp who eacll celebrated 35 years of mar- riage June 11. Correspondence was dealt with and donations made to several causes: 1. a $500 joint donation with Branch 109 to the Salvation Army; 2. the Lady Diana Nursery School; 3. money to send one mentally retarded adult to summer camp; 4. $400 to the local bursary fund; 5. money to send one person from Family and Children's Ser- vices to camp; and 6. $50 to Zone C1 Sick and Visiting Fund as well as proceeds from June 5 dance to the ICU fund, of AM&G hospital. A donation of $200 was made to the ladies from the branch. Marg McMillan and Lor- raine Jones also made token donations to the auxiliary and all were gratefully received. A beautiful handmade afghan was givento the aux- iliary by Willie Bedard. There will likely be a draw later on this to raise money. Due to the resignation of Peg Wood from the . ex- ecutive committee, an elec- tionwas held and Grace Mugford, sports officer, was elected to fill the vacancy. Committee reports were given and a busy summer is revealed ahead. Members are asked to bear in the mind the following. dates: June 18 evening and June 19 all day - Tag Day; Founders' t)ay Weekend- entertainment in the lounge Friday night, Bil- ly Meek Saturday night at 9 p.m., breakfast 9 to 11 a.m. Sunday, tree planting m Court House Park 1:15 p.m., parade 2 p.m.,leve at Legion 3 p.m. and lounge entertain- ment 3-5 p.rn.; July 11 -Elora drumhead service,. bus leaves Legion at 8:30 a.m. (invitation also received to Branch 530 the same day); September 21 -pot luck sup- per for -all auxiliary and Legion members and husbands; September 19 - district sports in Palmerston and September 25 -Legion mortgage burning ceremony. Tickets sold on the rug will be drawn for September 25. The attendance draw was won by Heidi Beadle and the mystery prize by Iris Samp- son. i A great day was held June 9 when .the branch and aux- iliary entertained two bus loads of veterans from Westminister Hospital on their,4annual fishing trip here. Meeting closed in due form. There will be an ex- ecutive meeting Tuesday, June 29 and the next regular meeting is September 14. Callwood to judge contest A well-known Canadian author and a local university professor Will judge the 1982 Dorothy Shoemaker Literary Awards Contest, originally a Centennial pro- ject of the Kitchener Public Library, and named in honor of its former chief librarian. Writer June Callwood will judge the poetry entries, and University of Waterloo pro- fessor John English will select the prose winners. The contest is sponsored by participating public libraries in the Midwestern Regional Library System, and it is open to all residents of the Region of Waterloo, and Perth, Huron and Well- ington counties. Entry forms for the con- test are available at par- ticipating public libraries in Wellington, Perth and Huron Counties, and the Region of Waterloo.
