finds a very fired group of tournament
executives nursing a 'cold one' and
making plans for tourney 831!
This year's tourney featured one open
division with 20 entries. Several of our
recreational teams faired extremely well
against the W.O.A.A. Intermediate teams
entered to give the fars some exciting
entertainment.

Corriveau of 212 Bennett St. Goderich.
The final tally won't be known for a few
weeks but, we have definitely broken even
and hopeflly cleared enough to start up
again next year. After two years of run-
ning this tournament I can proudly say
that our main objectives have been filled.
We have organized a weekend ot com-
petitive women's fastball that is en-
tertaining for both players and spectators,
with good prize money and a good time for
all.
Helping to make it all possible were my
executive, Denise Mitchelmore, Bill
Kirkey, Del Mitchelmore Sr., Karen
MacKinnon, Dave MacDonald, Del Mit-
chelmore Jr., John Hay, Bev Wright,
Jeanette Donnelly, and Debbie Mit-
chelmore.
I would also like to give special thanks to
Terry austin, Ron Honking, Dan Maillet
and Doug Cruickshank for their hard work
and dedication.
This year Cathy Hamilton joined our
staff and under took the job of tournament
treasurer. Cathy did a superb job
organizing the books and proved to be my
right arm all weekend long. I don't know
where I would have been withour her.
The Goderich Umpires Association
worked the tourney and we look forward to
the same high quality and professionalism
again next year. Thanks guys for a job well
done.,
in closing I would like to thank all the ,
Goderich spectators for their support in
making this, our 2nd tournament a huge
success.

Linda Reid wins gold
Linda Reid took two gold medals in the OntarlO Special Olympics Swimming Championship
held in Guelph over the weekend. Besides receiving the two. medals, Reid was also honored
by Goderich Council and the Recreation Board and was presented with a town flag by Cotm-
cfflor, Elsa Haydon.
Linda Reid made sports history for the
town of Goderich by winning two gold
medals in the Ontario Special Olympics
Swimming Championship, held in Guelph
over the weekend. Reid, a student at
Queen Elizabeth School; won gold in the 25
meter front stroke, 50 meter back stroke
and placed fourth in the 25 meter back
stroke only .09 seconds behind the first
place winner.
Reid has been preparing for the event
over the past several weeks with help from
the staff at the Vanastra pool and through
weight lifting and other exercises.
There were 120 athletes competing in the
event from across Ontario. In several of
the events competition was stiff. The
athletes received celebrity treatments by
city officials and area MPs and MPPs.
The two wins give Reid a possible
chance at representing Southwestern
Ontario in a North American Swimming
Championship to be held in Baton Rouge,
Louisiana in July, next year.
Reid was also honored by Goderich
Council on behalf of the town and the
Recreation Board for here efforts and
presented with a town flag.
Squirt- team beats Clinton
Last Tuesday, in the first squirt travel
team game played this season, Goderich
scored a decisive 2-0 win ovejClinton.
Ian Campbell and Jason Duckworth
scored for Goderich, who managed to; con-
trol most of the play throughout the game.
The score could well have been doubled if
it had not been for some fine goaltending
by the Clinton netminder and some poor
shooting by the Goderich forwards.
Two squirt house league game were
played on Wednesday. June 2. at Robert-
son School_ The' Vikings won both games,
• beating the Bombers 2-1 and the Raiders 2-
0.

Good play in men's slowpitch this week
BY BRUCE BAKER
Upsets you say! No way. Just good play
this week as Jeffery's Cobras defeated
Carlow 9-8. Then later in the week edged
Garb & Gear • by a score of 6-5. Cedar
Lodge, another strong 'B' contender, ham-
mered Carlow 16-2. _
In some very close A -B contests, the Op-
timists edged Bluewater 6-4 to pick up
their second win of the season. The
Oldtimers snuck by Cedar Lodge13-10 and
the Goderich Restaurant scored one run in
the seventh to defeat Meneset 5-4.
In other games around the league, Cedar
Lodge whipped Local 1863 by a score of 13-
2, but lost a dose 6-4 decision to Meneset.
Garb & Gear downed the Local by a score
of 7-2, while the coyotes -blasted Bluewater
15-0 and Champco 10-4. The Bears defeated
Meneset by an unknown score, while the
Bulldogs defeated Champcol6-0 and the
Restaurant unleashed their bats in 21-0
victory over the Renegades.

During the past week, the Goderich
Elevators were assessed a $20 fine for fail-
ing to supply umpires and Meneset suf-
fered a $10 score sheet fine. Team reps are
urged to fully complete the score sheets
and submit them within 48 hours or more
fines will be reported.
In a game that put our constitution to the
test..the Optimists edged the Renegades 6-
5, but had the victory taken. away and
awarded to the Renegaaes on the strength
of a protest upheld by the executive. The
situation requires little clarification as the
constitution clearly stares that a team
must wear matching sweaters. By no
stretch of the imagination could a sweat
shirt with the sleeves. cut off even be con-
sidered a ball sweater, let alone matching.
This is a rule voted in by team reps and it
will be enforced.
No one should think unkindly of a team
that picks up two points just because the
other team fails to abide by the rules.
Another point which obviously requires
clarification is the request to re -schedule a
game for reasons other than weather. If
your team is involved in a tournament, any
request to re -schedule a Sunday game
must be made at least a week prior to the
