Canada a unique IODE sponsored program
Mailbox Canada is a
unique national project
sponsored by the IODE to
link school classes across the
country. It is designed to
help students learn more
about the people and places
in other provinces.
This year Ann Doherty's
Grade 4-5 class and Karen
Cleary's Grade 6-7 class at
St. Mary's Separate School
in Goderich are par-
ticipating in Mailbox Canada
through the sponsorship of
the Maple Leaf Chapter,
LODE. Their link -up is with a
salmi in Burnaby, British
Columbia and they have
exchanged photographs,
maps and projects about
thP1A1CIAPIIPC thrair towns.
Last year John Scratch's
Grade 5-6 class at Robertson
Memorial Public School was
linked up with Brandon, •
Manitoba through Mailbox
Canada. Even when the
project ended, many
students continued to write
and are still writing to in-
dividual pen pals.

Employment Incentive Program. The
program assists municipalities with

"MORE OUTDOOR
LIVING" is the name of the
next 4-H project and it is just
as it sounds. Topics are
therefore nature ap-
preciation, weather wat-
ching (and maybe even
forecasting for our own use),
wild plants that are edible
and those that are not. Crafts
connected with these topics,
leaf prints, animal ttack
moulds, kite making and
flying Ore- also taught_
Naturally the outdoors
improves 'the appetite so
there are suggestions for
picnic, camping and trail
foods.
In order for this project to
be a success, we need
leaders to pass this in-
formation on to the mem-
bers. Workshops for leaders
will be held to provide
guidance and background
for teaching the lessons.
Usually, there are two
leaders per club. A club is
made up of a minimum of
four members.
