IODE holds potluck The Maple Leaf Chapter IODE met at the home of Mrs. Auleen Curry on June 1 for a potluck supper meeting. A business meeting was held following dinner with Regent, Mrs. W.J. McIntyre presiding. Reports were read and ap- proved by secretary, Mrs. R. Graham and treasurer, Mrs. W. German. Education secretary, Mrs. G. Hunter presented her report. This year's bursary win- ners are Mary Lillian Simp- son and Jacqueline Dalton, students at G.D.C.I. Two local schools, Robert- son and St. Marys, par- ticipated this year in the IODE Mail Box Canada pro- ject. Mail Box Canada links elementary school children across Canada through cor- respondence; The purpose of the program is to promote unity amng Canadian children. Art supplies were sent to our "Adopt a Class" in Labrador. A letter of thanks was read from teacher, Mrs. Ruby Savoury. Assistant secretary, Mrs. H.W. Bettger reported the Past Regents' plaque has been hung in the Huron County Library. The names and years of office of each Past Regent is engraved on the plaque. Through the Family and Children's Services, the chapter voted to support a child at summer camp for one week. Mrs. Curry, chairman of the 1982 Red Cross cam- paign, reported on the suc- cess of the campaign. 'Members canvassed the town during the last week of May. Lung Assoc. concerned While donations to the annual Christmas Seal campaign were up this year for the Huron -Perth Lung Association, the money came from fewer donors. "This concerns us", said the group's president, William G. Lenev at the annual meeting in Stratford recently. - He was echoed by the group's financial advisor Mark Hipkin of Stratford who presented the financial statement Income is up to $66,057 from $59,674 in 1981 or 10.7 per cent but expenses, $68,634 m 1982 have in- creased 13.2 per cent, from $60,665 in 1961. As well the Lung Association has about $50,000 invested in a capital account. "We are not im- mune to economic conditions and ideas are needed to increase income and cut expenses," he told the volunteers at the meeting. The Lung Association paid tribute to former executive director, Beryl Dinsmore, who,retired earlier this year after 18 years. A presen- tation was made by Edith Brothers, who was charter president when the Huron and Perth Lung Associations amalgamated, and also by Mrs. Dunsm ore' e two daughters - Maurice Smith., director of physiotherapy services at Stratford General Hospital, who was guest speaker, told • volunteers to remiNnber they are not just part of a local effort but are helping sup- port world wide research in lung diseases. Mr. Lena will serve as president `414 the Lung Association for another year. William Kinahan of Lucknow is past president and vice- presidents are Michael Connolly of Kippen and Rev. Ted Nelson of St. Pauls.
