Evil is nothing new
BY THE REVEREND
FATHER E.J.

Evil is nothing new in the
world. One reason disregard
for divine law is so rampant
is the widespread publicity
given these things. Subjects
that were once taboo, as for
MINISTER'S STUDY
example homosexuality and
abortion, are now discussed
readily and simply accepted
by a portion of society. The

becomes de- hristianized,
the more manifest will
emerge the power and
hatred of Satan.
m.A..2 ' an ahlinr!a ve. ,f
material pouring off the
press, featuring satan and
all his works. There is a
church in the U.S. known as
the Church of Satan with a
several thousand , claimed
membership. Its philosophy
demands, in addition to pay-
ing dues, that adherents ac-
cept satanic doctrines,
which in fact glorify in-
dulgence and the seven
deadly sins.
A church leader once said:
"Evil is not merely a lack of
good - but an effective agent,
a living spiritual being
perverted and perverting..
How else can one explain the
senseless crimes and perver-
sion so rampant in a society
today."
But there is no' need to
fear. Christ, the Lion of
Judah conquers all forces of
evil if we turn to him in con-
fidence and hope. St.
Augustine wrote: "The devil
is like a chained dog. He can
really harm only those who
put themselves within the
chain's reach." Augustine's
Understanding is true, pro-
found, encouraging. Life is
too short and there's too
much of gracious beauty and
goodness and divine love in it
for' anyone to lower
themselves to Satan's cheap
wiles.
Jesus said, "I have come
that they may have life and
have it in all its fullness."
