coming
Goderich Branch Library
is pleased to have Canadian
children's author and
storyteller, Robert Munsch
on Saturday, June 5 at 11
a.m. There is free admission
to the program which is''
sponsored by Outreach On-
tario. Children and adults
are welcome to attend.
• Mr. Munsch lives in
Guelph and has published%
five stories through Annick
Press. These are: Jonathan
Cleaned Up, Mud ,Puddle,
The Paperbag Princess,
Then He Heard a Sound and
the most recent story being
The Boy in the Drawer.
Munsch was born in Pitt-
sburgh, Pennsylvania. In
1973, working in a day care
centre in Coos Bay, Oregon,
he told stories in order to
keep the kids quiet at nap
time. •
"I started making up my
own stories, which didn't
have pictures. Well, they
bribed me; they liked my
own stories and they
wouldn't stay on their cots -
unless I gave them their own
story - a new story - every
day."
Munsch's stories don't spr-
ing from his head in final
form. They evolve through
the telling.
"All I'm trying to do is
keep the audience from leav-
ing when I tell stories. That's
my bottom line. Of the
stories I tell, one m 25 is a
really good story that will
last. The others will hold the
kids for the moment. The
acid test of a good story is
when the same kids request
it again and again."
Mr. Munsch is currently a
lecturer with, the Depart-
ment of Family Studies at
the University of Guelph.
This June 5 .program will
feature storytelling, discus-
sion and a chance for
autographs.
Tickets.
going. fast,
Season tickets for • the
Blyth Summer Festival are
selling at twiee last year's
record breaking irate as
many take advantage of this
theatre bargain. Anne Mann,
Box Office manager at the
'festival says that the box
office is just meeting this
pleasing challenge. Anne
says, "The vouchers are
very attractive to theatre-
goers because they may be
redeemed for any com-
bination of plays.' More
flexibility is provided by the
expansion of the season to 72
performances and ' five
plays. Vouchers will be
available until June 26.
Concurrently, tickets for
touring groups are being
booked at a rate of one group
a day. While increased
voucher sales demonstrate
the theatre's popularity with
local audiences, these 'group
sales allow people from
distant parts to witness
Huron County's heritage.
With all this activity at the
festival, it is advisable to
order tickets as .soon as
possible in order to assure
better seating. The box office
numbers are (519) 523-9300,
and 523-9225.
Tax hits
Festival
The effects of the recent •
provincial budget will mean
aii increase in the ,cost of the
Country Suppers at the Blyth
Summer Festival. The
budget means that the 7
percent retail sales tax will
now apply to the
homecooked suppers and
lunches.
Last year the festival
arranged 3,500 meals. The
community women's groups
cater these weekend events;
last summer they raised
$15,000 for their good works.
The festival began with one
lunch for one bus group with
one local church. This year,
they expect to book over 40
sittings of 100 with 11
women's groups. The
theatre's 1982 brochure was
already published wl,e,I the
budget was announced sa the
new supper prices are not
listed. The festival
apologizes for the confusion
this may cause. The basic
prices are: Dinners $7.00,
Lunches $4.50.
The 7 percent tax should be
calculated on the total
number of Country Suppers.
These delicious meals are
well worth this extra cost.
