May 17 in Knox Church

meeting and her husband
Bill led the group in a sing-

Christina Hyde gave a.
reading, "Who . are the
Sowers?" and prayer was
offered by Mar Young.
Shirley McCall led in the
devotions on "Christian
Literature and Books" and a
large display was set up and
on view by herself and
Glenda Salter. Many com
ments were taken from these
books and Shirley said that
children' should read at an
early age and she stressed -
Instill this kind of reading
in them as found in I
Timothy 1:2." She went on to
say that many churches.

The business portion
concluded the meeting with
good reports about the
recent garage sale and the,
progress for the anniversary
dinner October 18.
The next meeting will be
held June 21 at Glenda
Salter's cottage. It will be a
pot -luck suPPer meeting.
Kaittings celebrate anniversary
Mr. and Mrs. Gordon. J.
Knitting celebrated their
40th wedding anniversary
this month. The anniversary
date is actually Mily 23 but
Mr. and Mrs, Gordon
Henderson entertained at
dinner in their home on
Tuesday, May 11 and in the
•evening a surprise party
was held. Mrs. Henderson
was a bridesmaid at the
wedding 40 years ago.

entertained at a surprise
family dinner party at the
Sugar Bush Inn near
Bayfield.
On Wednesday, May 19,
Mr. and Mrs. Kaitting and
Mr. and Mrs, Frank
Mcllwain, formerly of
Carlow, who celebrate the
same date in May, were
together for dinner and the
evening.
On Saturday, May 22, Mr.
and Mrs. Cliff Crozier visited
and brought greetings from
Goderich Rebekah Lodge
and on Sunday, May 23, Mr.
and Mrs. Henry Brindley,
formerly of Colborne, en-
tertained for dinner.
Mr. and Mrs. Kaitting
have enjoyed the 40 years
that have slipped by all too
quickly and hope for con-
tinued good health to enjoy
several more. They recall
that their happiest years,
although their busiest, were
spent operating Tiger
Dunlop Inn.
They sincerely thank their
many friends who knew of
the event and remembered
them with gifts, cards and
best wishes.

Institute May meeting was
held in Colborne Township
Hall Thursday, May 20 nt
1:45 p.m. with the president,
Mrs. R. Buchanan,
presiding. After the opening
exercises, with Mrs. G.
Kaitting at the piano, the
president welcomed all,
especially the 17 visitors who
included members . from
Goderich and Dungannon
WIs.

were read by the secretary,
Mrs. Allan Stoll and business

Members agreed to cater
to the Colborne Central
School graduation banquet
on June 23.
The district annual for
Huron West will be held in
Londesboro May 31 with the
following delegates at-
tendings president -Mrs. R.
Buchanan; district director -
Mrs, E. Sherwood; curator -
Mrs. H. Brindle and
resolutions -Mrs. G. Kaitting.
Mrs. Dickson represen-
tative from Town and
Country Homemakers, then
informed members of the
services the homemakers
render to needy people. By
means of slides, she showed
how the homemaking ser-
vice is carried out in many
different cases. A special
drive for funds for this
organization will be carried
out October 11-18 and any
help in canvassing or
donations will he most nc-
ceptablr.,

demonstrator for the
meeting, Mrs. Wallace
Nelson, who gave a makeup
demonstration using Mrs.
Allan Stoll as her model.
This proved very interesting.
Mrs. E. Sherwood thanked
members for the lovely tea
rose from the Institute.
Members then joined in
the closing exercises and
enjoyed a social half hour
with lunch served by the
social comimttee of Mrs. H.
Brindley, Mrs. O. Faikiner,
Mrs. E. Bogie and Mrs. 8,
Snyder. During the lunch,
members and guests visited
the plant sale table and
purchased indoor and
garden plants, shrubs and
flowers of many kinds.
Calf Club
The secondmeeting of the
Dungannon Calf Club was
held May �18 at Bob McNell'*
home. The meeting was
called to order at 8 p.m.
when the pledge was -
repeated by all ,members
present. The roll call was
taken, showing one member
absent. Minutes of the
organizational meeting were
then read.
The meeting was then
turned over to Bob McNeil
,he eselettnsd his farming
Dennis Martin, gueet
speaker, then talked about
the judging of mature dairy
cows. Members judged a
class of mature dairy cows.
Some members gave their
placings and the reasons for
placings. Then Glen McNeil
gave official placings for the
class of cows. MaMn talked
to the members ,about
management, nutrition,
health, housing and genetics
of the dairy heftier from one
to 24 menthe.
The meeting was ad-
journed and refreshments
followed.
Upcoming dates for
members to remember are:

29 in Cllrton and the next
meeting which is June 15,

On Tuesday of last week.
the Ripley Horticultural
Society held their spring
flower show. Those from the
area who attended were
Dorothy Finlayson and June
Wilds. Dorothy Finlayson
received quite a few points

Cecil spent a while in
Goderich the other day and
visited with Mrs. Norma
Young and with Mrs. Viola
Farquhar who is a patient in
the Goderich hospital.
Mary Ellen MacKenzie,,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Jim MacKenzie, was one of
the grade 1 students who
went on the Safari bus trip
from Brookside School on
Thursdayof last week.
The amily of George
Moncrief gathered at his
home Wednesday evening,
and they along with his wife
Betty, helped to celebrate his
birthday. Happy birthday
George.
The Ashfield Presbyterian
W.M:S. held their mpnthly
meeting Thursday evening
at the home of Mrs. Gerald
Farrish.
Sorry to hear„that Finlay
MacLennan of Wingham,
formerly of the second
concession of Huron
Township and son of Mrs.
lthetta MacLennan, was in a
car accident Thursday af-
ternoon in Huron Township.
Finlay received minor in-
juries, including whiplash.
One woman was seriously
injured and is in a London
hospital. A baby and another
woman were slightly in-
jured.
Mrs. Edna Culbert and
Mrs. Mayme Wilkens had a
very successful sale at the
home of Mayme .Wilkens.
There were lots of plants,
baking, used clothing
(nearly new) and nick necks
sold. Anyone wishing to
donate items, may get in
touch with either of the
ladies.
Mrs. Rhetta MacLennan
and her daughter Florence.
MacLennan of Kincardine
visited on Monday of last
week . with Mrs. MacLen-
nan's brother and sister-in-
law, Harold and Peggy
Jardine of Harriston and
also with Mrs. MacLennan's
daughter Louise, son•in-law,
Bruce Millar and their boys,
all of Palmerston.
Playhouse to hold
musical auditions
Huron Country Playhouse
will hold non -equity local
auditions for the musical
production of OLIVER which
will run at the Playhouse
from August 24 through
September 11.
All those interested must
have prepared a short song
and bring their music with
them. An audition pianist
will be provided by the
Playhouse.
Auditions will be held at
the Playhouse May 29th and
May 30 between 2 p.m. and 5
p.m. No appointments are
necessary.
