Coaching is serious
Dear Editor,
'_. note to the Bantam A's:
Not quite men,
Certainly not boys
Too young for cars,
Much too old for toys.
You are at a very special
time in your life and Dan
was glad he could be a small
part of it. Coaching is a very
serious job that should guide
young people on theice as
well as off.
Dan and I enjoyed our din-
ner out. We attended the
Sunday smorgasbord at the
Duke of Bedford with Brian
and Jackie :';1omnson on
Sunday, May 16. We had a
delightful evening. It was
such a thoughtful idea to in-
clude Jackie and I in this uni-
que coaches' appreciation
gift. Thank you.
The best of life to all of
you, Remember through the
hard times, your parents are
your .full-time coaches. Be a
team through the . losing
games as well as the winning
ones and you will be.a
greater team in the end.
We wish you the best of
luck . in both the game of
hockey and the game of life.

secondary plan for East
Wawanosh and give the in-
itiative to other areas to do
so as well.
The code weakens the
agricultural community in-
stead of strenthening it. Pro-
tect us from the complainers
and don't strengthen their
hands by this asinine code of
practice.
Nowhere before did I hear
anyone say that oil explora-
tion should not take place in
the township, but suddenly it
crops up in the secondary
plan. Aside from the ques-
tion if such a clause would be
permitted by the provincial
government, the disruption
of farming by such explora-
tion is minimal, and, if oil or
gas should be discovered,
thefinancial benefits could
be great for anyone whose
land yields these carbons. Its
inclusion must be a hobby
horse of one of the planners.
An unnecessary restriction,
it should be scratched.
To conclude, gentlemen of
my council, it behooves us
all to scrutinize this
proposed plan very carefully
to make sure it Works" for the
benefit of township residents
who are mainly farmers and
owners of our largest in-
dustry, and secondly to the
benefit of the rest of society,
increasingly in need of food.

Bus trip planned
Dear Editor:
You may wish to take a
day off your usual routine
and spend it in a slightly
different fashion. Here is an
invitation: As advertised
elsewhere in the paper the
Goderich Recreation
Department is planning a
bus trip to Toronto on
Saturday, June 5.
The bus leaves from the
Grandstand at 8 a.m. sharp
and will arrive at the Art
Gallery of Ontario in Toronto
around 11 a.m.
The departure from the
Art Gallery is at 4 p.m.,
arrival in Goderich around 7
p.m.
The approximately five
hours spent in Toronto will
enable you to do a number of
things, on your own or with
friends, particularly as the
Art Gallery is downtown at
Dundas and McCaul.
You can spend as much
time as you wish enjoying
what the Gallery offers from
its permanent collection or
in special exhibitions in
Canadian and international
art.
The very appealing
temporary showing of the
later works of A. Y. Jackson,
called Alberta Rhythm,
started only last week.
The exhibition of the
beautiful and colourful
prints by Japanese artist
Utagawa Kuniyoshi is truly '
delightful.
The controversial special
exhibit The Dinner Party has
just opened, although extra
tickets are needed for that.
One can spend any length
of time at the Henry Moore
Sculpture Centre or visiting
The Grange next door,
typical of the 'home of a
gentlemen' in early York,
built at the beginning of the
19th century.
There are no plans to tour
the gallery as a group. It is
felt that this would be
cumbersome and perhaps
even boring. Guided tours
are also available on
request, at no extra charge,
but the general plans are
that individuals would prefer
to set their own speed, stop
at leisure at points of their

experience.
Entrance to the Airt •
Gallery is as follows:
general adult admission is
$2; children under 12 are
free, students 12-16 pay 50
cents, older students with
cards pay .75, cents; senior.
citizens .,(with cards) also
pay 75 cents.
Arrangements for the trip
to be made at the Recreation
Office (grandstand). The
return bus fare of $12 is
payable in advance during
office hours 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 .
p.m. on weekdays. If you
wish to have lunch at the
Grange Restaurant,
arrangements can be made.
For further information call
the Recreation. Office at 524-

We on the Recreation
Board feel that this is a
relaxing and inexpensive
way to visit Toronto and to
have good choices of spen-
ding an interestingday of
personal enrichment,
combined with sightseeing,
shopping (the Art Gallery
also has a lovely gift shop) or
whatever you prefer. Those
who are familiar with the
Gallery know that they will
enjoy a return visit; those
who have not visited it before
will find the . beautiful
complex full of treasures
and delights.
Sincerely,
Elsa Haydorr

• A point that may have
been missed is that in and
around all the years that
dated from about the Otitis
and 1690s, there was always
a nucleus of minds stirring
on such topics as standard
and daylight saving time,
time zones and the like: you
will remember Fleming's
part in that. There were
others who were interested
in simplified English, or a
common language such as
Esperanto. These gentlemen
mainly, formed societies or
joined branches of institutes
such as the Royal Canadian
Institute, and discussed
these things endlessly. I
believe that they called it in-
tellectual curiosity: (the
human voices were
available in the years before
the electronic pollution.) But
the real reason for Dr.
Strang's support of
simplified spelling, if it ex-
isted, would probably be that
his beloved Classics were
full value languages, never
altering a sound and only in
most minor degree altering
perhaps a preposition prefix
so that the meaning was.

recite poetry eloquently).
