Spring concert on Wed-
nesday, May 12 with Mr. R.

The concert commenced
with the senior choir singing
six numbers with Floyd
Herman as conductor and
Miss K. Richardson as ac-
companist. The choir sang
up to their usual high
standard and their songs
were greatly enjoyed by the
audience.
Mrs. L. Nakamura's
Grade 2 class presented a
pleasing skit, ' `The Three
Little Pigs", with Mrs. S.
Dustow as musical director.
Mr. A. Sanders' Grade 3-4
class presented the number,
"Danny the Dinosaur", with
Mrs. S. Dustow as musical
director.
Grades 6,7 and 8 presented
"Going West", a two -act
musical. It began as a wagon
train prepared to head west.
A school teacher named
James Newberry (Allan
Cannon) signs on because he
has read the legends
featured each week in the
paper -and because Miss
Sally (Laura Wark), one of
his- former students, is
returning home on the same
train. She is accompanied by
her cynical, western -to -the -
core Aunt Maude (Liz
Schoemaker) who has gone
east to chaperone her home.
The train is financed by Mrs.
Montague (Lynne Starkey),
a rich widow on her way west
to her late husband's goad
mines. Bad guy, Bart Slade
(Kevin Talbot) and his boys
try to steal the gold mine
maps but are caught by
Newberry and Rooster
Cogpatch (Brad Milburn), a
marshall with 'true grit'.
The second act takes place

several weeks later as'the
group treks westward on the
hot, dusty prairie where one
the problems is Indians who
are running away from the
reservation. Newberry of-
fers suggestions to the Chief
(Steven Millian) who likes
them so well he makes him a
blood brother. Several things
happen and because
Newberry resolves these and.
other problems, a
photographer (Adam
Moore) shows up to get his
picture and a story to feature
him as a western legend.
Adding to the humor of
both acts were the Wagon -
master (Jeff Thom) and his
bickering but likeable
helpers, Sidekick (Ken
Millian), Betcha (David
Duncan) and 'Cookie
(Canalyn Dowds) . Girls and
boys acting es bad guys,
dancing girls; Indians and a
chorus added to -the
production and en-
tertainment.
As in any play, there were
also a number of workers
backstage who deserve
thanks also.
Colborne Central School
senior choir will be in
Walkerton on Tuesday, May
25 competing in the music
festival there.
The regional track and
field meet will be an all -day
event at Brookside School on
Thursday, May 27.
