Bedard elected Branch 109 president
Comrade Claire Bedard
was elected President of
Legion Branch 109 when over
60 members met for the
annual nominations and
elections night held in the
Jubilee Room of the Legion
on Tuesday, May 4. His term
of office will commence June
1.
Other officers' of the
Branch who were elected at
this meeting were: first vice-
president -John MacDonald;
second vice -president -Alvin
Blackwell; treasurer -
Clarence Hoy and secretary -
Carolyn Holborn. The im-
mediate past president of the
Branch is Comrade William
Burke.
Committee chairmen
elected at the meeting were:
finance -Don McArthur;
membership -Rick Duck-
worth. ways and means -Neil
Shaw; sick and welfare -Ray
Barker; property -Harold
Chambers; poppy cam-
paign -Howard Carroll;
service bureau -Walter
Sheardown; entertainment -
Harold Beadle; sports -Bea
Dowell; public relations -Neil
Shaw; youth and education -
Maurice Wilkinson and
house -Eleanor Worse -ll.
Nominations and elections
were conducted by the zone
commander, Comrade
Robert Chapman. He was
assisted by the deputy zone
commander, Glenn Bridge of
the Blyth Legion Branch.
A joint installation of the
officers and chairmen of
both the Branch and the
Auxiliary will be held
Saturday, May 22 at 7:30
p.m. in the Jubilee Room. A
dance will follow.
Legion 1adies,to hold zone convention
On Sunday, May 16, ap-
proximately 150 represen-
tatives from the 12 Ladies'
Auxiliaries in Zone C-1 will
meetatthe Legion Hall in
Goderich for their annual
zone convention. Zone C-1
includes Auxiliaries in
Kincardine, Howick,
Brussels, Blyth, Lucknow,
Ripley, Wingham, Clinton,
Seaforth, Exeter, Hensall
and Goderich.
Among the dignitaries to
attend this year's convention
is Audrey Wilson, Honourary
Treasurer, Ladies'
Auxiliary, Ontario
Provincial Command.
Evelyn Carroll, third Vice
President, Ladies'
Auxiliary, Ontario
Provincial Command and
Mona Davis, Ladies'
Auxiliary Zone C-1 Com-
mander will also participate
in the meeting. These two
ladies are actively involved
in the local Auxiliary to
Branch 109. Mayor Harry
Worsell and Branch 109
President, William Burke,
will welcome the ladies to
Goderich.
Registration will take
place at 12:30 p.m. and at
1:30 p.m. the Seaforth Girls
Band will lead a parade of all
delegates and their

Auxiliary's colours to the
Cenotaph where the
Reverend G. L. Royal will
conduct the service.
Sergeant Major Ralph
Kingswell will be in charge
of the parade. It is hoped that
the citizens of Goderich will
'plan to attend the service at
the Cenotaph and view this
very colourful parade.
After the parade, the
meeting will take place in
the Jubilee Room of„ the
Legion Hall with dinner and
a social time to follow to
reinforce the good
comradeship between all the
Auxiliaries in Zone C-1.
Factory saved
CI.INTON - An alert resident
who reported hearing a
"crackling sound" in the
early morning hours of May
4, enabled the Clinton
volunteer fire brigade to
save one of Clinton's oldest
factories.
Damage in a blaze at the
La'
120 year-old building housing
Fabian Furniture, was
limited to one corner of the
building near the paint room,
as firemen got to the blaze
before it had taken a hold in
the three-storey brick and
wooden landmark, built in
1863.
