BY WILMA OKE
Wearing his 'famous'
clerical gown, the Reverend
J. Ure" Stewart marked the
75th anniversary of his or-
dination to the Christian
ministry by preaching the
sermon at the morning
service at Northside United
Church in Seaforth on
Sunday, May 2. •
It was the same sermon,he
preached at his ordination at
the Eleventh Presbyterian
Church in Chicago in 1907.
And, in his firm clear voice,,
he spoke again of the three
secrets of the possession of
Christian joy which are: a
life of faith, the spirit of love
and theassurance of
salvation He also recited a
poem, Ure's Seventy -Fifth
Ordination Anniversary,
which he wrote recently.
A reception to honor Mr.
Stewart was held in the
church Sunday school rooms
following the Sunday service
with lunch served, by the
church women's group. This

On Wednesday evening a
party of English emigrants
reached town by the 7:10
train, having been sent on
here . by the Dominion
Immigration authorities at
Montreal, to the care of W.R.
Robertson, who is supposed
to place them in farm
situations. Some difficulty
was found in providing
lodgings for them, as no
provision had been made in
advance, and not one of them
cared to undertake farm
work.
The House of Refuge
Committee met at the House
of Refuge on Friday and
found all the departments
clean and tidy. The Inspector
'was instructed that Mrs.
Iilsie and Mrs. Brown, two
aged women, be provided
with suitable rocking chairs.
On Wednesday two of, our
prominent citizens were
caught riding bicycles on the
sidewalk, and paid the tax,
one dollar and costs, without
the charges coming to court.,
AO YEARS AGO
The presentation by the
Goderich Music Club of
H.M.S. Pinafore filled the
parish hall of St. George's
church twice last week, on
Thursday and Friday
evenings, and the sprightly
music of Gilbert and
Sullivan's popular comedy
was heard with delight.
Fog, high winds and rain
early on Tuesday, shortly
after midnight, forced down
tvlfio' twin -engine Anson
bombers while they were
seeking to make a landing at
their Port Arhtur base. One
came down at 12:30 near the
new bridge over the
Eighteen Mile River; one
and a -half miles south of
Amberley; the other at a
point five miles south of

Kincardine. Both machines
were badly smashed and
three of the four crew who
came down near Kincardine
were injured.
As officials see it, there
has been only one off -beat
note hi the 16th annual Huron
County Music Festival which
winds up here this weekend.
The quality and quantity of
contestants have been ex-
cellent, but the empty chairs
in t the audience are causing
genuine concern. On Monday
afternoon when the high
school competitions were in
full swing at Goderich Public.
School auditorium there
were° only six paid ad-
missions.
The cornerstone of the new
43 -bed wing of Alexandra
Marine and General Hospital
will be laid 'Saturday af-
ternoon in an impressive
Hospital Day ceremony.
Tribute was paid to suc-
cessive generations of
worshippers who have .at-
tended the church when
special services were held at
North Street United Church
on Sunday on the occasion of
its 125th anniversary.

1982 Instalments of
up to $310 Have Been Mailed
Ontario Tax Grants for Seniors is a program designed specifically to help offset
municipal and school.taxes for Ontario residents`65 and over. The Ontario Ministry
of Revenue has just comp'.3ted the mailing of cheques which comprise the first
instalment of the 1982 Property Tax Grant of up to $250 and a new temporary
Home Heating Grant of $60. These cheques were mailed oh May 10th.
Who received it?
■ If you're 65 or over and owh or rent your home, you're eligible for the Property
Tax Grant.
■ The 1982 instalment cheque was mailed to all Ontario seniors who received the
1981 Property Tax Grant,
■ This is intended to help you pay your property tax or rent for the first part of:
1982. In the fall you will automatically receive an application for the balance
ol1 your grant.
Who did not receive it?
Basically, if you didn't receive a 198'1 Property Tax Grant, you will not have received
the May instalment. In particular, seniors should note that: .
■ If you reside in a nursing home, home for the aged or any property tax-exempt
institution, you're not eligible for the Property Tax Grant. •
• If you turned 65 after December 31, 1981 (and therefore did not qualify for
a grant -last year) you also won't have 'received the May instglment• However,
you will receive an application for the entire 1982 grant in the fall,
Temporary Home Heating Grant
This year a temporary Home Heating Grant of 560 has been added to the Tax
Grants Program to help seniors cope with the sudden increases in heating
costs. This 560 is included in your 1982 instalment cheque. For example, if you
received a Property Tax -Grant of $480 for 1981, your 1982 instalment amounts to
$300 (i/2 of 5480 = $240 plus $60). •
