hired for Point Farms
Point Farms Provincial
Park will officially open on
May 14. Glen Spurgeon has
been appointed superinten-
dent of the park, succeeding
Douglas McEachern who
has been transferred to Sib -
bald Park in the Lake Sim-
coe area. Spurgeon is mar-
ried. His wife's name is
Donelda and they have two
daughters Jo Anne, 20 and
Jayne, 16 and one son David,
18. Spurgeon has been 14
years with the Ministry ,
working at the Pinery Park,
which has 1,278 campsites
and covers an area of 6,000
acres.
The staff that worked at
Point Farms in 1981 will be
returning for the 1982
season. Activities are plann-
ed for all ages with emphasis
on children and the
teenagers.
Point Farms Park has 200
campsites in two areas
which are designated as
Huron and Colborne. Until
about seven years ago they
had a third area which was
called the Hard Wood Bush.
This was a popular area,
however, due to vandalism
to the trees, the Ministry
closed it. Perhaps this area
could again be opened and
used by the Senior Citizens,
who this year, from June 18
to Labour Day, will have to
pay for their camping on Fri-
day and Saturday. All other'
days are free.
Both Colborne and Huron
campsites have hot and cold
running water and this year
washrooms have been plac-
ed throughout the park with
a hand basin, for the conve-
nience of the campers. Col-
borne has 74 campsites
which have Hydro outlets
and they cost $8. All other
campsites are $6.50. -
The Park Superintendent,
who has had considerable
experience in law enforce-
ment in the parks, advises
that the laws governing us in
our every day life, are with
us in the park, ,and as
campers we are also govern-
. ed by the park regulations.
Park Wardens will be on du-
ty at all times and they have
the powers while working in
the park.
Point Farms has been a
very popular park since
opening in 1966. It has sandy
beaches for swimming.
Fitness trails are there for
those who like to exercise.

PORT ALBERT
NEWS
Tom Livingstone, 5I28.7045
There is a barn where social
and educational programs
are a daily feature. Good
fishing is featured at
Bayfield, the Maitland'
River, the Goderich Harbour
and the Nine Mile River at
Port Albert. All this will con-
tinue until October 13 when
the park will close.
Social News
Visiting this week with
Tom and Anne Livingstone
were Dr. Andy Green and
Preston Stansell from
Blenheim. Dr. Green has
been in medical practice m
Blenheim since 1946. He and
his wife Mildred are fre-
quent campers at Point
Farms Park.
Ethel Ilowski, sister of
Anne Livingstone, spent the
weekend in the village.
Sales at .the Brussels
Stockyards Friday were the
best in the 12 -year history of
the present owner Bruce Mc-
Call. Cattle were in good sup-
ply. One steer of 1100 pounds
brought a price of 98 cents
per pound.
The ice has finally disap-
peared from the shores of
Lake Huron in the Port
Albert area and once again
we can hear the swish of the
waves as they come to rest
on the sandy shore.
The planting of the spring
grain is almost completed.
The weather has just been
excellent. Most farmers,
when queried about the plan-
ting, had the same answer,
"We need rain", and their
request. was fulfilled Friday
afternoon.
Canadian Hydrographic.
Service from .Burlington
(Central Region) were in
Port Albert Wednesday do-
ing a reconnaissance survey
for the making of nautical
charts in Lake. Huron from
Bayfield to Kincardine.
George Fenn, Al Clark and
Tim Moody are the survey
team and they will be in this
area all summer; They are
employees of the . federal
government and each one
has about ten years service.
Bob Dobbin of Waterloo
and his brother. Jeff arrived
at 2 a.m. Wednesday to fish
the Nine Mile River and they
were rewarded for their ef-
forts with each getting a•two
pound rainbow trout.
The correspondent for the
Port Albert news would ap-
preciate having. your items
of news in the Village and the
surrounding area.
Ann Bauer, former resi-
dent of. Port Albert, surpris-
ed her mother in 'Brussels
(Ruby Leishman) and her
mother in Port Albert
(Merle Bauer) when she
flew in from Edmonton to be
with them on Mother's Day.
Ann Bauer and her husband,
Terry are former residents
of the village and early this
year they moved to Edmon-
ton. Another surprise at the
Leishman home was when
Joan Leishman, a journalist
from Brazil, dropped in to be
with her family .and friends
in Brussels and Port Albert.
Roy ° Bellinger, con-
servation officer, reports
that fishing was goad on
Tuesday at Port Albert, but
since then it has been poor.
The smelt run this year has
not been good. Bellinger
states that the smelt are
usually running when the
trout season opens and last
for a week, but not more
than two weeks, so it would
appear that time is running
out for the smelt fishermen.
Snow can still be seen in
the ravine just south of the
village.
