UQLMESVILLE . - To

Farm Survival Association
is trying to help farmers do.
Secretary -treasurer Bill
Wolfe• spoke about his
organization at the May 6
meeting of the Huron County
Federation of Agriculture.
Mr. Wolfe (of the Dole
button area) disconnected
the CFSA from a group
known as the vigilantes and
while his group has received
support from the executive
directors of the Ontario
Federation •of Agriculture,
the association is not part of
the OFA.
Describing himself as a
free enterpriser, Mr, Wolfe
said he is "not a radical".
"It's the last thing I said
I'd ever do," said Mr. Wolfe
about his involvement with
the association.
The reason for the
association? There are two
reasons why farmers band
together in such an
association according to Mr.

prices and high interest
rates.
"We can't do anything
about commodity prices -
there are commodity
groups," said Mr. Wolfe, He
added the association sup-
ports those groups.
But the association does
try to do something about
high . interest rates. Mr,
Wolfe said they have been to
Ottawa twice, meeting with
all three caucuses, in London
to meet with agriculture
minister. Eugene Whalen,
have met twice with
Ontario's deputy agriculture
minister Duncan Alien an
they have had one meetinif,
with provincial agriculture
minister Dennis Tlmbrel.
They have also talked with
representatives of Canada's
five major banks, including
one president.
"We've covered our bases
- told our story," said Mr.
Wolfe. "We're going to find
out if we live in a democracy
or a police state".
CFSA is asking govern-
ment for a moratorium, a
freeze on loan payments, and
massive amounts of low
interest rate farm credit
money. Also a request has
gone in for government to re-
instate, the Farmers' 'and
Creditors' Act used during
the 1930s, which would re-
adjust a farmer's debt to his
cash flow, Vex .severe ,Caine.
of financial difficulty, the
association is asking for the
re -introduction of a concept
whereby the government
buys the land and leases it to
the farmer for 10 ,years.
Forgiveness of loans is 'also
suggested by the association,
Mr. Wolfe cited cases
where the association has
stepped in and helped far-,
niers. The main thing, he
said Is to get the farmer and.
banker talking again
towards a solution.
It's pretty •wild in his part
of - the country, he said, in
Grey and Bruce counties.'
Many farmers are under
severe financial pressure. At
one meeting of about 140
people, 25 percent did not
have enough money to plant
a crop this year.
Farmers in trouble call the -
association, and Mr. Wolfe
' said the first question he
usually asks, is if the farmer
has a lawyer and ac-
countant. Speaking on
support from the. com-
munity, he said the Owen
Sound hospital has offered
Itssychiatric guidance
services,
Times are tough, and Mr.
Wolfe said while the
association's requests to
governments may not solve
all the problems in the world,
"we've got to put some little
bandaids on."
Check your fireworks
With the May 24th weekend coming up, local police
are asking for the public's cooperation regarding
fireworks.
F-ireworks are not permitted except on your own
property (or with permission on another person's
property). Children are only allowed to setoff
fireworks under adult supervision. And you must be
at least 16 years of age to purchase fireworks.
Certain kinds of fireworks from the United States
are illegal in Canada (all the ones sold in stores here
are legal). If you are not sure about yours, contact
police who can check them out.
Police are also asking cooperation concerning
pellet guns and air rifles. They -should -not normally
be used in town and the .owners should be at least 16
years of age.

home.
The Mustang was built for
the United States Air Force

planes were sold to Canada
the following year. The.

squadrons existed in London,
Winnipeg and other points

It took a' month and a half
to repaint the Mustang, a
