Nurses' Week is May 10-15
Nurses perform one of the
most . essential roles in
society—they are there when
people are born, when crises
strike and when people die.
"That's why we want to set
aside one week in the year to
remind, the public of our
continuing contributign to
the community, explains
Mrs. Gail Livingstone,.
President of Local 52 of the
Ontal'io Nurses' Associationt-
Nurses' Week, May 10-15,
is sponsored •by 32;500_
registered and graduate
nurses who are members of
the Ontario Nurses'
Association to promote the
nursing profession.
"This year's, theme of
"Nursing Is..." highlights
the,; enormous . scope of
nursing. Often peopleonly
think about nurses in 'a
hospital situation. But
nurses also make a vital
contribution . in public health
units, in clinics, homes for.
the aged and nursing
homes," says Mrs.
Livingstone. "We're no
longer restricted to a cap
and uniform. Nurses are in
skidoo suits in northern
outposts and inmilitary
uniforms in foreign coun-
tries."
During Nurses' Week,
there are a variety of op•
portumtles for the .public to
meet and talk to nurses
about their profession and its
role in the localpcommunity.
