More to Easter than outer display BY THE REVEREND ' NIARWritt-BAR-Z;--- BEREA-BY-THE-WATER • LUTHERAN CHURCH . There is something within us that loves .a good show! Many have thrilled this past weekend at the pageantry and Color .of Queen Elizabeth's visit to Canada, and the celebration of the Constitution. Millions upon millions enjoyed the spec- tacle of the Royal wedding last stunrner. Perhaps events like' these have an appeal simply because they take our minds off the day to day'difficulties and struggles of • life in a troubled world of high in- terest rates, high unemplo- . mefit, spritig—snowstorms, • and all the rest. ,.Perhaps I*11111111•11111111111111101, MINISTER'S STUDY that's what Easter meant, too. The celebration of 8aster can and should have been a day to lift the spirits and •thrill our hearts. Usually a larger , number of people than ordinary heartrumpets, trumpets, organs,. choirs, soloists, sounding forth with praise for a 'Man named Jesus who wasn't found in the grave the third day after He was buried. But 1 hope 300CFSaw more than the air& display of the season. Too many people see it as simply the beginning of the season of spring. Each year the words of the angel are heard saying: "He is not here", and only the flowers and the bunnies and the grass are seen. Manystand at the tomb and just wonder "What is it all about?" Some still debate the question of whether Jesus really died, or whether His body was relieved • by someone. Ton often we seem to take a quick look at the empty tomb, and soon turn back to our hum -drum lives, and go on with "business as usual." They came to know, to •believe, that ,Jesus had left the tomb 'because death couldn't keep Him a prisoner. He rose to declare that death had lost its.power: He left the tomb because He wanted to show that graves are only tem- ,porary. He lives because nothing can ever keep the Son of God down. There may have been many reasons whip) led you and others to the empty tomb on Easter Sunday mor- ning. It doesn't really matter why you may have gone to the tomb — what is Minor - tent is what you found there, and what it means in your life now that Easter has been celebrated. ' What is really impel tant is . that God wants you to know that Jesus died and lives so that there can be an open door between you and Gd. God wants you to*know that on the basis of what His Son Jesus has done, you can be forgiven.. He wants you to realize that because your .Lord and Saviour lives, death is no longer. a • real enemy. There is a real reSur- Tabernacle. rection, •that began with Jesus and is carried out in every one of His people. The Good News' of Jesus' resurrection is too great to last for just a weekend. Some real joy, real hope; can fill us, can change our lives when we believe that we have a Saviour who not only died for us, but rose and lives for us, If Christ is for us in . this way, then surely nothing can ever be against us.
