Dew -Editor,
ln early January Oi 1.9117,
was 00 my may back home
(Goderich) from vting
film& near Thangateen. It
vras late at night awl one ei
the worst storms of the year.
had jest gone through the
Nile and the blowhig snow
made visibility almost
nonesistent I wasn't moving
any faster than about 2040
mph when my viniality" went
altogether. I took my foot off
the gas and began to coast to
a stop. I never made it. The
car hit' something and bonne -
ed to the right, the steering
wheel started to spin, cat-
ching my arias and tearing
the mocks in my shoulder.
As suddenly as it began,
the car came to a jarring
stop. I couldn't see out the
WitildnINS bat I knew I was in
the ditch. The ear was en a
forty-five degree angle.
I tried to get out the door.
No good; it was jammed
shut. I tried the passenger
door. 1twasjanedatso.
The motor was shit nom-
ing so I stayed put with the
heater on full but soon the
motor died and so iftd my
heat.
I jamped into the back seat
and vdrapped myself in an
old sleeping bag that was my
constant back seat compa-
Mom After a few moments, it
began to get cold, vay cold.
I tried both back doors but
they too were jammed stmt.
I rolled over on my back and
held the door handle open
and kicked with both feet un -
the door opened.
As 1 crmsled out the small
opeohig, I knew why the
dem woiddn't open. The
Fed was burled tat past the
back doors in snow.
The wind was so string, it
twe ene ef the gloves off my
hand and I watched it disap-
pear ammo the road into the
• Wrapped up hi my old
sleeping hag, I walked out
onto the road. I was cold and
sore. I knew this country hike
thebackofmyliaiid,bUtI
couldn't figure out where I
was. There were no land-
marks for me to lock into;
the wind was too Strong; and
the blowing sinew made it
hard to see.
Then, down the road, came
a carload vi people who,
believe it, or not, were on
their way to Florida.
They stopped and picked
me i and took me back to
their home in the Nile.
Once there, they gave me
day clothes and 9amething
warm to eat and think, and a
place to sleep for the night -
In the nionlin g, the storm
had subsided and after
breakfast and a phone call to
my boss (who, by the way,
was not at all
understarefteg!), they gave
me a lift to my car.
Atfirst. they tried to oull

me out with their half ten but
the Ford wouldn't lodge.
Nest, they welt home and
brought back their front end
loader. They had quite a
time to get me out and at one
point had to pull themselves
and my cas. out of the each
using the bucket on the
leader.
They helped me clean the
snow out h -em under the
hood and juniper started my
ear.
For doing all this, they
didn't ash for a dime, just
shook my hand and drove off
home.
Every Chnstims since
then, I remember them. I
don't reniember their
names; just that they lived
in a big new house in the Nile
and must have owned a con-
struction cosontny.
I wish to thank them now,
for if it wasn't for them, I
inlet have &min to death
that night. I woukki't now be
married or have my son.
Everything I am, I owe to
them and their family.
It's nice to know that there
are still a few good
samaritans lefton earth.
Merry auistmas and may
God bless you!
Thank you,
Wiliam Blackmore,
Oshawa, Ontario.
