Photo by Cad: WORdEll GDCI BASKETBALL Seniors off to good start r BY TD The GDCI senior basketball team got off to an impressive start in Huron Perth Conference league' play here Wednesday, defeating Mitche1183-40. The Vikings had an unimpressive 14 won -lost record in pre-seasontournament and exhibition play, but things began to fall into place for coech Phil Bugler's team Wednesday. The Viliings played well defensively and got some good offensive output from severalplayers. Hot -shooting Ray Aitcheson led the Vikings' attack with 26 points. Ben Melick added 15 and Dennis Aubin got 12. Mike Murphy hooped eight points, Kevin Smith had seven and Joe Morrissey checked in with five points. Kevin Adams and Don McCallum had four points each and Dave More added two. For Mitchell, a team which has int proved from last year, Greg Whitlock had 13 points and Mark Ortelli got 12. The Vikings play at Clinton in a league game Thursday and then play at home Friday night in an exhibition encounter with Dorchester. Saturday the Vikings will be playing a tournament in Acton. Rahbek shines for Midgets • BY TD The GDCI midget boys' basketball team defeated Mitchell here Wednesday 55-28 in the opening game of the Huron -Perth schedule. The victory was the first for the Vikings after three losses in 'exhibition Play in the pre -season. The Vikings were paced by Kevin Feagan's 14 points. Peter Conlon had 11 and Jeff LeBeau added 10. Team captain Shawn Rahbek and Grant Townsend had six points eadi. Andrew Cox with four and Trevor Erb and Travis Bell with two aoiece rounded out the Viking For Mitchell, Bert Vorstenbach was the top scorer with five points. Coach Lynn Meyers was pleased with the Viliings' effect. He felt his players were beginning to work together and given some time to improve their defensive skills, Meyers feels the VEkings will do well in Huron -Perth competition. Meyers was particularly high on Shawn Rahbek who is assuming the role of team leader with his effort and enthusiasm.
