Include Ontario foods
As the holiday season ap-
proaches, many Ontario
residents are busy making
preparations for special din-
ners.
Whether it be for parties or
quiet dinners, a planned
menu will give yon a head
start. Remember to include
many of the good foods that
grow in Ontario, say
marketing specialists at the
Ontarib Ministry of
Agriculture and Food.
Keep the freezer stocked
with holiday ingredients
such as butter for baking,
frozen vegetables for
marinated salads, grape
juice concentrate for drinks
and ice cream for desserts.
Turkey and other meats
keep well in the freezer.
Many dishes can be
prepared ahead of time and
kept frozen until they are
needed. Traditional
Christmas baking and other
sweet treats are often
pnerareu early in the season.
It's a good idea to have extra
helpings of hearty beef stew,
chicken soup, and tasty
casseroles for those unex-

As you are proabably
aware, we have had
problems with head lice this
school year. You are
probably wondering what
you can do to protect your
children - Here are two
suggestions:
1. Check your children
daily: Use a good light to
check for head lice and nits -
strong natural light is the
best or a strong fluorescent
lig& The eggs or nits are
whitish, oval shaped and are
usuany located behind the
ears or across the back of the
neck - nits stick to the hair
strand. It cannot be flicked
off as can dandruff. If you ,
find nits or a live head louse -
TREAT ininediately.
TREATMENT: 1. Soak the
Head in pure vinegar for ten
minutes. This is to soften the
shell of the mut 2. Apply
Para -Lice or Kwellada
solutions which can be
bought at the drug store.
Follow directions on the
battle very carefully. To
avoid possible reinfestation,
treatment has to be thorough
and repeated in 4 to 5 days.
Each nit must be removed
from the hair by palling the
egg down the entire length of
the hair shaft. All nits must
be removed otherwise self
retrifedation can occur.
2. The Christmas holidays
are not far off. The holidays
are a tirne of travel and
visiting. Be especially
vigilant at this time that
your children do notcadract
head lice. In the New Year
we will be back to check all
schools. Be sure that your
child returns to school in the
New Year clear of head lice
or nits. If you have any
further questions, feel free to
contact me at the following
number 482-3416. Seasons
Greetings from Madeleine
Roske, PublicHealth Nurse.
