Mrs. Verna E. Johnstone
of Goderich died in Victoria
Hospital, London on
Tuesday, December s.
She was barn in Goderich
to James and Kathleen
(Sullivan) Phalen of Ashfield
Township.
She wasa fife long resident
of Goderich and worked as a
hairdresser, operating
Verna's Beauty Salon here.
She was a member of
Royal Canadian Legion
Branch 109 Ladies'
Auxiliary; St. Peter's
Roman Catholic Church;
and the Catholic Women's
League.
She is survived by her
husband, Eric C. Johnstone
and one brother, Harry
Phalen of Dunchurch,
Ontario.
A funeral mass was add at
St. Per's Roman Catholic
Church in Goderich on
Friday, Deceonber 11 at 11
a.m. The Reverend Father
AF. Loeh®chofficiated.
Interment was in St.
Peter's Cemetery, Colborne
Township.
Pallbearers were Bill
Lawson, Walter Sheardown,
Joe O'Brien, Byron Jaques,
Roy Mugford and Willard
Legg.
Prayers were held at the
McCallum Funeral Home in
Goderich on Thursday
evening, December 10.
Royal Canadian Legion
Branch 109 ladies' ry
held a memorial service at
the funeral home Thursday
evening also and formed an
honor guard at the funeral

The Ontario Agricultural College presented awards to its top students at a ceremony recent-
ly at the University of Guelph. Among the recipients was Anne Marie Howard of Goderich
(left) who received an OAC Scholatship for high academic standing in resource manage-
ment, her major. She is seen with Andrea Da Rocha of Agincourt, a fellow recipient and
Professor TiL Warley of the School of Agricultural Economics and Exteasion Education
who aresented the awards.

PUC getting Christmas gift

Please fmd enclosed one
copy of the new rate adjust-
ment for REC. customers,
All bills after November 1,
1981 will be adjusted from
the flat rate of $8 to $10 for
water for a total of $4 per two
month billing period
I received my bill for the
two math period September'
and October with a reading
date of October ; dearly
stamped on nay bill.
The four dollar increase
had been added incorrectly.
I forwarded a letter to the
RUC. explaining the pm-
blem and enclosed a cheque
LETTERS
to cover the two-month
period minus the four dollar
mistake_ My cheque was
refused and I was not able to
receive a clear answer as to
why it was not accepted.
I had hoped to receive a
written reign,- from the
ricers for the charge but fail -
to receive arorithing_
Four dollars is not much
money for todav's society_
When you consider halt the
town is billed at one time, ap-
proxinaately 1500 customers
pay at ane period.

John (Jake) Grover Black
of 210 Main Street, Port
Stanley, Ontario died at his
residence on Sunday,
December 13 at the age of 64.
He was a retired sailor.
He was born in Detroit,
Miichiin on July 7, 1917 to
James and Margaret
(Stapleton) Black.
During World War II, he
served as Private A4394 with
the R.C.Rs in Canada,
Britain, Sicily, Italy, France
and Germany.
He was an adherent of St.
George's Anglican Church in
Goderich.
He is survived by one
sister, Mrs. Herman
(Margaret) Chamney of
Windsor.
A funeral service and
committal were held at
Stiles . Funeral Home in
Goderich on Tuesday,
December 15at8p.m.The
Reverend Robert Crocker
officiated.
Interment was in
Dungannon Cemetery.

Mrs. Mary Johnston of
Goderich died in Maitland
Manor on Saturday,
December 12at the age of E.
She was born in Aubun on
March 2A, 1894 to John and

Word was received in
Goderich that Mr. Virelliam
Bogler of Fort Meyers,
Florida, suffered a heart
attack last week and passed
away at the age of 58.
Mr. Bogler married for-
mer Goderich woman Kay
Nexdorf during the war
years and the couple moved
to Detroit where they had
two sons who are both
doctors.
Mr. Bogler retired (sixty
