Student curlers at GDCI played the fourth round of curling matches this week, with seven different teams competing in Tuesday af- ternoon games. Twenty boys and eight girls make up the mixed teams, with all grades being represented. Their coaches are science teachers Doug Bundy and Carl Ziebarth. Coach Bundy is a certified Girl Canada instructor and has been the high school staff GRHL report -advisor in curling for the past nine years. "We have tried to give the novice curlers some good basic instruction,' says Bundy. "And it is paying off in the calibre of curling that the kids are playing." "Curling is a little dif- ferent than most of the team and extracurricular sports at high school. We don't restrict the participants to just the top athletes and we don't playa Mei games with teams from the other schools. We except students from all the grades, both boys and girls, and if they. .are willing to come out for our instructional clinics and learn the basics, we put. them on a team," continues Bundy. After three rounds of play in the first draw, only one team is undefeated. Dan Durst, and his team of Fraser Hayek, Stephanie Lucas, and Heather Stapleton, has three wins. Mile Paquette, who has Keith Hallam, Bob Rober- tson, and Carol Ann Smyth on his team are two and one. Student curling takes palce every Tuesday after school at the Maitland Carling Club. Try -outs for the boys and girls teams to represent the school in Huron -Perth playoffs started this week and will continue over the Christmas holidays.
