Foundry to shut down WINGHAM - The Wingham Foundry Company Ltd., has announced plans for a two- week shutdown over the Christmas holidays this year. The shutdown, which will idle most of the foundry's staff of about 180, is a t- trlituted to the economic decline affecting the com- pany's majorcustomers. President Richard LeVan explained, "Most of the plant's customers in the diesel engine and the passenger car business have inventory shutdowns because their sales are off." He described it as a volatile situation, which changes every day as customer demand changes. In addition, the foundry also announced several temporary layoffs, one last week affecting seven people and another planned this week. Mr. Levan reported that the company had looked at closing down the foundry for three weeks, but was able to cut it back to two.
