While some skiers may experience early season jitters the first day on the hill while attempting the first run, the ability to ski is still there. However, there are thin:: you can do to eliminate those jitters and make the first outing a comfortable one. Before heading for the slopes, put on your equip- ment at home. Test the boots, skis and poles at home or outside and be sure the bindings have been checked and readjusted by a certified ski shop mechanic. Lorne McFadgen, director of skiing at Talisman, claims SKI SCENE that the simple act of putting on your equipment and moving around a bit will give you the feel of skiing, allowing your muscles to remember the weight. The next step is your first day on snow. On the first outing, choose a slope that is much more gentle than your regular choice and be sure to warm up prior to the run.
