Road info for drivers Winter can be one of the most delightful seasons and that lends itself to the en- joyment of seasonal -ac- tivities, But, while many look forward to the snow and cri5i air to pursue skiing, skating, snowinobiling and other interests, it is a season that manydriaers dread, Driving can be most dif- ficult at times, especially in this area when winds reduce visibilty and drifting snow forces the closure of roads and highways. The Ministry of Tran- sportation and Comw munication has announced that its Winter Road Reporting Service for the public went into operation on Monday, November 9, There is little meed for the service now, but it will came in Mindy, The Road Information Centre at Toronto and the ministry's district offices throughout the province have up-to-date information on the condition • of 011 provincial and secondary highways 74 -hours a day, seven days a week daring the wintetmonths, For arty road information in the Huron County area, phone the ministry office in Stratford at 271-8321. features a variety of tactical styles. They will vary with individual skips as shot preferences usually dictate style and approach. Each skip, however, should be well aware of the strengths and weaknesses of his team since the skip's shots comprise only 25 per cent of those played by his team. If the other members of the team are unable to conform to the skips methods and strategy, then the skip's rocks will not make much difference hi the game. There was a time in curling when a skip could easily stick to one style of play with a reasonable measure of success against any opponent. But, as the level of competition in- creases the chances of winning with a single style decreases. Team improvement requires long hours of work refining delivery, strategy and techniques. Like any sport, it requires some commitment. If a skip does not have the time, or if the sport is mainly a recreational outlet, then learn to utilize the strength of all players and make it work for you. If curlers are played to their best shots whenever possible, their shooting ,percentages will improve. Higher . shooting percentages will also lead to more lames won. In addition to turns, most players have preferences as to weight used for takeouts and an overall preference for a take-out or draw game. If a team does decide to stick to a particular style of game, it should notdeviate from that plan unless cir- cumstance dictates other- wise. Get comfortable with a system and don't be in- timidated by other teams or their strategy.
