Former Ashfield Township farmer dies in Goderich. hospital

CURRAN
John Herbert Curran of
Goderich died in Alexandra
Marine and General
Hospital, Goderich on
Thursday, November 26 at
the age of
He was born in Ashfield
Township on June 26, 1913 to
Herbert and Mary (Saun-
ders) Curran.
He worked as,a farmer and
lived in Ashfield Township
until November of 1976 when
he moved to Lucknow. He
lived in Lucknow until
March of 1981 and then
moved to Goderich.
He was a member of
Trinity United Church in
Ashfield Township.
On June 1, 1935 he married
Eileen Treleaven in Ashfield
Township. She survives him.

Also surviving him are
four daughters, Mrs. Ken-
neth (Ruth) Oke of Goderich,
Mrs. Ted (Sylvia) Johnston
of R.R. 2 Goderich, Mrs.
Dorothy Willis Mero of Nile
and Mrs. John (Mary)
Bissett of Goderich; four
sons, Donald, Grant, Ralph
and Stewart, all of R.R. 1
Dungannon; one sister, Mrs.
Thomas (Dorothy) Anderson
of Lucknow; 30 grand-
children and four great-
grandchildren.
He was predeceased by
one son, Robert Charles; one
sister and two brothers.
A funeral service was held
at McCallum Funeral Home
in Goderich
November 29

Interment
Greenhills
Lucknow.
Pallbearers were Ed
Johnston, Steven Johnston,
Kevin • Willis, Jim Bissett,
John Curran and Murray
Curran, all grandsons of the
late Mr. Carran.
Relatives and friends from

Plattsville, Kitchener,
London, Detroit and
Stratford.

He is survived by his wife,
Ramona (Trethewey) and
two brothers, Robert and
Frank Bright.
A funeral service was held
at Stiles Funeral Home in
Goderich on Friday,
November 27 at 10 a.m. The
Reverend G.L. Royal of-
ficiated.
Interment was in Colborne
Township Cemetery.
Pallbearers were William
Treble, Duncan MacKay,
Allan Stoll and 'William
Stiles, all members of Morn-
ingstar Lodge no. 309, A.F.
and A.M.

William Lawrence
(Lorne) Pentland of Trillium
Villa Nursing Home in Sar-
nia and formerly of Dungan-
non, died at his residence on
Friday, November 27 at the
age of 80.
He was born in Ashfield
Township on July 2, 1901 to
John Hadwin and Annie
Maria i, Young) Pentland.
He lived in Dungannon and
then in Sarnia since about
1930. He worked as a broker
and was a member of Liber-
ty Lodge no. 419, A.F. and
A.M., Sarnia and the United
Church.
He is survived by one
brother, Leslie of Goderich

Gordon Wayne Powell of
201 Huron Street, Clinton and
formerly of Auburn, died
Friday, November 27 at
Domtar Mine in Goderich as
the result of an accident at
the age of23.
He was born in Goderich
on December 5, 1957 to Gor-
don and Donna (Haggitt )
Powell.
He lived in Auburn and
later in Clinton and worked
as a miner at Domtar Mine
in Goderich.
He was a member of Knox
United Church In Auburn.
On September 10, 1977 he
married Dinotte Marie Mar-
tin in Thorold. She survives
him.
Also surviving him are two
children, Gordon and Jackie,
both at home; his parents,
Gordon and Donna Powell of
Auburn; his grandmother,
Mrs. ' Laverne (Emma )
Powell of Goderich; his
father-in-law, Samuel Mar-
tin of Cambridge; his
mother-in-law, Regina Mar-
tin of Thorold; three sisters,
Mrs. Bryce (Wendy) Ritchie
of Lucknow and Vickie and
Shelly, both of Auburn; and.
three brothers, Bob, Terry
and Kevin, all of Auburn.
A funeral service was held
at Stiles Funeral Horne in
Goderich on Tuesday,
December 1 at 2 p.m. Mr.
Richard Hawley officiated.
Interment was in Clinton
Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Ernest
Martin, Gilles Martin,
Rolland Martin, Mery Dwin-
nell, Greg Arthur and David
Glousher,
Flower bearers were Noel
Martin, Joe Martin, John
Martin, Eldon Chamney,
David Rodgers, Doug Eaton,
Joe Hanna and Brian
Fellows.
GLT play enjoyed
on the weekend
"In the Court of the
Emerald King", a play put
on by Goderich Little
Theatre (GLT) this past
weekend for children 'fro*n 4
to' 84', was thoroughly en-,
joyed by the audience in the
MacKay Centre.
A big thankyou to the
members of the cast for a
top-notch show; to the back
stage crew . for costumes,
make-up and lighting; to Lou
Legg for the great map; to
Fran Fisher for programs;
and to Mrs: Allen Johnston
for the puppets. nIt was a
great team effort.
The special thankyou goes
to the Robinson family: War-
ren for writing and directing
the play, Eleanor for her
music, Erin for her rendition
Pre -Christmas
of "Tomorrow" and Baird
helping wherever he could.
It was so nice to see the
GDCI drama club members.
(now grown up) back on
stage and. to have so, many
new people becoming work-
ing members.
The GLT float in the Santa
Claus parade Saturday won
third prize in the non-
commercial category and
again many thanks to the
members on the float and the
people involved in building
it. .
Don't forget. the monthly
GLT meeting on Thursday,
December 10 at MacKay
Centre at 8 p.m. and the
dinner -dance at the
Candlelight Restaurant on
January 29.
