Home My WebLink AboutThe Goderich Signal-Star, 1981-11-25, Page 25Auxiliary initiates members BY CAROLYN HOLBORN Fifty-nine members were present at the November 10 meeting of the Legion Ladies' Auxiliary to witness the initiation of two new members; Marl Miller and Enid Barker. Four new applications for membership were received and accepted and the resignation of Jean Chamney from the executive was accepted with regret, Jean has moved to London and is transferring her membership there, Peg Wood was elected as a member of the executive to replace the vacant seat left by Jean. A request was also received from Elva Bums to have her membership transferred to Exeter. The auxiliary's sports teams have been very busy over the past couple of months and also very suc- cessful. The euchre team of Grace Mugford, Iris Sam- pson, Isobel MacDonald and Bessie Bissett will be going to Preston on November 21 for regionals. The cribbage team of Marg Lightfoot, Mickey Chambers, Ann Sprung and Marg McMillan placed second 'in zone cribbage in Blyth. The bowling team of Lorraine Jones, Peg Wood, Ann Sprung, Donna Duncan, Rose Sheardown and Anne McCartney placed first at the zone bowling tournament held in Clinton. And on November o tuber 19 the team of Edna Powell, Laura McLarty, Grace Mugford and Marg Lightfoot won the auxiliary's first-ever dart trophy by defeating 16 other teams from Zone C-1. The plans for the veterans' Christmas party to be held November 25 have been finalized and •members are anxiously awaiting the yearly .visit of these very special men.. Five htitidred dollars was donated to the. Intensive Care Unit fund and $100 was given to the Terry Fox Youth, Centre which is being built in Ottawa as part of the„Royal , Canadian Legion's wedding gift to the Prince of Wales. As well, $10was donated to . theC.N.I.B. Anniversary congratulations were ex- tended xtended. to Kay and Ted McAstocker, ker Norma and s Ralph Kingswell and Edna and Arnold -Doak. Special birthday wishes go out to Mary . Vickers, Bea McGratten and Marj Emerson. Comrade Maggie Mabon received her 10 -year service pin from first vice-president Kay McAstocker. The Snowflake bazaar draw winners were an- nounced. They are Don Bowes of Hanover who won the doll andcradle donated by Marg McMillan and Lorraine Jones as well as all the clothes which were made by the Auxiliary members and Don Bauer of R.R. 3 Goderich who won the carrot cake donated by Doris Wilcox. Committee reports were given by the chairmen present at the meeting and plains for the Christmas meeting December 8 were discussed. The mystery prize . was. won by Karen Draper and the attendance draw was won by Marg Young. Attend funeral Comrades Myrtle Good, Rose Hill, Mary Drennan and F,ye Sheardown of the Goderich Legion Ladies' Auxiliary to Branch 109 were in London recently to attend the funeral service for Miss Agnes Lizmore who was it member of the Chatham Auxiliary. The late Miss Lizrore was a person who did so much for all the war veterans at Westminster Hospital, Site 4.as on call at any time and ac corinpanied the veterans to Goderich for their annual fishing trips and Christmas parties where many members of Branch 109 and The augiriary got to n1r�w1 T Very' weft awd to love her Us - much a.4 the veterans did.
