Martha tours Coast Guard cutter
Last week I enjoyed a tour
of the U.S. Coast Guard Cut-
ter, the BISCAYNE BAY -
"Sentinel of the Straits" she
is. known as from the
Mackinac Bridge area with
St. Ignace the home base. '
I hesitate in calling this
boat 'she' and I was told I
could call it 'a boat without
getting scolded.
This ice breaker is so bri-
de' - can't think. of a better
word for the feeling I had. 1t
is . so compact, so - so hard
and business like, so well
equipped for the rotten job it

Huron - the BISCAYNE BAY
just growls and snorts - and
attacks! You can't call this
lady like behavior, now, can
you?
The nice young man who
showed us around, said that
often when the air (bubble)
was in action . sometimes
they felt they would land on
top of the ice instead of
chewing into it. Now that's
no way for a lady to behave!
And when I say snort I
mean that exactly! This ice-
breaker is large and
stronger than other harbour
tugs. Do you remember the
first winter we had the air
bubbles bubbling in our har-
bour? Well, this fellow
breaks out in front with

This "bull. air lubrication
system" reduces the friction
between the hull and ice and
they ride thru' instead of
bouncing on top of the ice
giving the vessel twice as
much cruising range as the
older cutters. So, I found the
tour very interesting - and
enlightening as 1 had never
been on an ice cutter before
this -day.

When you are .feeling low '
and frustrated take a minute
to assess what is happening
around you: Why are things
getting to you? I know why
they're' getting to me but
here is perhaps help for
you... If you can work it -
there is peace in silence. Be
on good termswith your
neighbors.
Speak the truth - always -
speak it quietly and clearly
and listen to others. As far as.
possible without surrender,
be ,on good terms . with all
people.
If loud and aggressive peo-
ple bother you try to avoid
them as you would liars and -
cheats. Keep interested in
the world about you. Lord
knows there is little you can
do for it, but be
knoWled geable. Be yourself.
Do the things you really
want to do or they are the
source of your frustrations.
Enjoy and be proud of your
achievements as well as
your plans, whether noticed
or not by others. Make con-
tact with old friends, this is
one of your put -offs and a
thing that bothers you. You
need true friends to keep you
alive and happy.
Perhaps you are unable to
travel and see things you
would like to see, but, you
can listen and see them thru'
the eyes of others and feel
their excitement and en-
thusiasm_- it helps!
Love,
Martha.
