Nine members from Perth County and three from Huron County were present. Following the general business, items for discus- sion included planning for the annual meeting to be held in .early March with the theme of "Year of the Elder- ly" kept in mind. Fred, Overholt was chosen to be chairman of that committee. In the nursing service report, Ms. Barry reported that. Mrs. Sandra Sargent, an employee of VON Stratford office for the past six years, has relocated in the Sudbury area with her family and has accepted a position with the Sudbury Health Unit due to Foresters The Canadian Foresters added $4,620 to their Cancer Research Fund at the CF 22nd W.O.P.A. (Western On- tario Provincial Assembly) held November 20 and 21 at the Ramada Inn, London. Presenting cancer che- ques for Court Benmiller ($733) and Court Fascination ($250) were Chief Ranger Ken Sowerby and President, DorothySowerby. President of District Council 34, Bar- bara Hawkins presented a cheque for $100 on behalf of the council. The W.O.P.A. Project '81 was a, $3500 donation to the St. Mary's Hospital Building Fund. $4120 was given. Christine Anderson, a nurse from the Hamilton - Wentworth VON branch has been hired in Mrs. Sargent's absence. A major item on the agen- da this month was the discussion of increases to the VON's salary scale to main- tain competitiveness with that of hospital nurses. In the past, the VON salaries have been kept at a level as close to parity as possible with hospital nurses, although community health nurses' salaries have never been equal with that of hospital nurses. Not unlike the rest of the country, the Perth -Huron VON branch is finding that with escalating costs, there will undoubtedly be a need to. increase the 1982 fee per visit in order to continue to pro- add $4,6 vide thequalityof care that the public is accustomed to. The publicity and educa- tion committee is sending letters to invite requests to speak to public groups and service clubs to increase the awareness of the VON, thereby increasing the number of donations to help -keep the cost per visit to a Minimum. The nominating commit- tee too has been busy with its program to orientate new board members who will, in turn, relate the role of the VON to the public. The branch is actively seeking prospective board members from both counties, especially Huron, who are willing to devote a bit of time to the management of the VON. Meetings are held monthly in areas of both counties to interest and ac- commodate new members. 20 to fund were Jean Ginn as warden and Gerry Ginn as member of the executive. Gerry was re-elected to the executive and installed as District Deputy for Huron District No. 34. Hudson Milburn was elected registrar for the '82 W.O.P.A. Delegates from Court Fascination were Dorothy Sowerby, Doreen Willis, Lor- na Milburn, Barbara Hawkins and Jean Ginn. Non -delegates were Alice Rodges, Shirley Lamb and Phyllis Cox. Delegates from. Court Ben - miller were Jim Hawkins, Ken Sowerby, Glenn Lamb, Jack MacKinnon and Hud- son Milborn. Barbara Meriam of Goderich held the winning ticket on a draw for a set of dishes. The 23rd W.O.P.A. will be hosted by Huron District Council No. 34 at the Waterloo Motor Inn November 19 and 20, 19 l2.
