BY JOANNE
BUCHANAN
The physiotherapy
department at Alexandra
Marine and General Hospital
needs more staff and more
space and, hopefully, both
these requirements will be
met soon.
Salim Remtulla, the new
physiotherapy department
head at AM&G since August,
spoke to the hospital board
Monday evening and in-
formed them that he is the
only full-time
physiotherapist at the
hospital along with two part-
time physiotherapists and
one physiotherapy aid.
Ideally, he said, there should
be three full-time
physiotherapists at AM&G—
two for out-patients (who
comprise 60 per cent of the
workload) and one for in-
patients.
"It is frustrating not
having enough staff. There is
a long waiting list of people
who need physiotheraphy
treatment and sometimes 12
to 15 critical days •elapse
before we can get to them,"
he told the board.
Remtulla said he would
like to start an exercise
program for both chronic
and post -natal patients but
stated that he just doesn't
have the time.
He is presently working on
filling out a form which will
allow the hospital to apply
for government funds to
increase its physiotherapy
staff. Administrator Elmer
Taylor feels that the
probability of such funding is
good since a government
committee set up to study
physiotherapy departments
acrosk the province has
recognized Huron Cqunty as
being understaffed.
"What's the point of
having a facility, if we don't
have the staffing," board
member Gerry Gin con-
cluded.
Remtulla also explained to
the board that all am-
bulatory aids were kept in
the physiotheraphy
department, causing a lack
of space. He said he expects
relief from this problem
when the ICU addition is
built, allowing his depart-
ment 50 per cent more space.
Plan supermarket
EXETER - A plan to build a
large grocery outlet in
downtown Exeter was
presented tothetown council
recently.
Michael Morrish, a sales
representative for Royal
Trust, said he had a client
interested in erecting a
15,000 square foot grocery
store for a major chain and
said the total transaction
involved in the land pur-
chase and erection of the
store was in the neigh-
borhood of $1,000,000.

gets fuel discount
A motion was passed that
Western Air Services be
given a two cent per litre
discount on fuel for their

their office located at the
Goderich Municipal Airport
be set at $60 per month ef-
fective January 1, 1982, when
the Goderich Airport

office rental will be reviev%ed
at the end • of 1982. Lloyd
Atfield was present at the
meeting to represent

Airport co-ordinator, Ed
Scruton reported to the
committee that the new 500
gallon fuel tank had been
installed at the airport and
should be in operation soon.
He said the repair of the
asphalt surface had not been
completed and would
probably not be done this
year.
In other business,

formed the committee that
the Ministry of Tran-
sportation and Com-
munications Air Office had
requested that Greer
Galloway, the consultants
recently hired to produce a
master plan for the Goderich

with them prior to the start
of this project. November 24
was set aside for this
meeting in which Hunter,
Scruton and the master plan
sub -committee also took
Part.
