Curator Mrs. Celia Taylor
had the Tweedsmuir history
and scrap books, that are
kept in the Archives room at
the Huon County Library, at
the MacKay Centre for
viewing at 10 a.m. November
5 prior to the pot luck lun-
cheon the Goderich Branch
of the Women's Institute held
at 12:30.
In,the absence of the
presient, Mrs. Jean Schram
was asked to chair the
meeting. With Mrs. Celia
Taylor at the piano, the
meeting was brought to
order by the opening Ode and
the Mary Stewart Collect.
The minutes of the last
meeting were read. and the
treasurer's report was
given. The roll call was
answered by bringing
something to add to the
curator's book.
It was decided to give a
donation to the Legion
toward the Poppy Fund.
The business having been
dealt with, Mrs: Celia Taylor
entertained by singing
severalof her own songs and
Mrs. Phyllis McTaggart held
a contest, "Know your
numbers".
The meeting closed by the
singing of the Queen. The
Christmas meeting will be
held December 3. The roll

. The November meeting of
the Maple' Leaf Chapter
IODE was held at the home
of Mrs. H. G. Hays. Vice
Regent Mrs. W. : J. McIntyre
presided.
Funds were voted to Pro-
vincial and National IODE
Chapters toward the
numerous projects . which
these Chapters support.
Education Secretary, Mrs.
G. Hunter, will present pic-
tures of Queen Elizabeth and
Prince Phillip at the new
building for the Municipal
Day Nursery on Tuesday,
November 17.
The Chapter will enter a
float in the Santa Claus
parade on November 28.
Mrs. Lee McCallum,,.
Treasurer of the Opportunity
Shop on East Street, gave
her financial report.
Members were reminded the
shop is in need of dhrtations
of all types of merchandise.
A letter was received from
Family and Children's Ser-
vices requesting volunteer
drivers to transport, a child
to and from nursery school
three days a week and two
members volunteered.
At the close of the meeting,
an auction sale was held with
proceeds 'going to Chapter
projects. Auctioneers were
Pat Stringer, Helen
McManus and Lee Mc-
Callum.
The December meeting
and Christmas party will be
held at the home of Mrs. W.
Mills, Cameron Street.
IODE scholarships
IODE scholarships
totalling $65,000 have been
awarded -eight Canadian
university graduate students
for the academic year 1981-
82. These post -graduate
scholarships are valued at
$9,000 each for study in a
Commonwealth university
and $5,500 for .study in
Canada. Another six
students received $3,000 re-
appointments.
The awards, designated
War Memorial Graduate
Scholarships, were
established by the National
Chapter of Canada, IODE,
after the First and Second
World Wars, as a tribute and
continuing memorial to
those who had sacrificed
their lives for their country.
Since 1920, over $2 million
has been awarded to more
than 500 IODE Scholars,
including such distinguished
Canadians as: Richard
Allway, Matthew Halton,
Marshall' McLuhan, Sen.
Alan McNaughton, the Hon.
J.W. Pickersgill, Lionel
Tiger and Albert William
Trueman.

H memakers urged to write
members of the Town and
Country Homemakers met
for their monthly Board
meeting on October 28 at Ex-
eter Hospital. The ad-
ministrator of the Hospital
and the Director of nursing
were guests for lunch.
A report was given on the
various fund-raising ac-
tivities. Winners of the lucky
draw from the variety con-
cert held at F.E. Madill,
Wingham were as follows:
Glenn McMichael won the
box of goodies donated by
board members; Harold
Robinson won a Terry Fox
memorial book donated by
Harris Stationery; Harvey
Timm won a bag of White
Beans donated by Under-
wood Farms; Mrs. Bert Gar-
niss won a subscription to
the Village Squire and Mabel

Members were advised
that the amaryllis bulbs
were now available for sale.

and cleared with salt the
same day for Green Bay.

from Bay City on November
