The luncheon to be served
during Centralia College's
open house °on November
12th, will include a moderate
serving of beans with squash
and corn, but no meat.
That's not the usual fare at
this Agricultural College,
but it is typical of the main
meal eaten by a farm family
in Southern Latin America..
According to Dennis
McKnight, staff co-ordinator
for the 'day, "The students
have decided- to serve an
awareness meal, rather than
their customary generous
meals in order to tie in with
the theme of this year's open
house, 'Feeding a Hungry
World.'
The College is adopting the
slogan of World Food. Day
and is preparing exhibits in
the areas of animal health
technology, agricultural
business management, and
home economics which il-
lustrate world-wide
agricultural problems. Also
included will be student pro-
duce competitions, cooking
demonstrations, films and
tours of the College
residences, classrooms and
laboratories.

Buying a
new coat?
Clothing specialists with
the Ministry of Agriculture
and Food recommend that if
you are planning to purchase
a new winter coat this
season, you should first
determine the best type for
your needs.
What type of lifestyle do
you have, casual or formal?
Do you need a coat for work
or leisure activities? There
are different fabrics and
styles' to suit all needs. A
down -filled jacket or coat
would be a good choice for
leisure while a smartly -
styled wool or leather coat
would be suitable for work or
more formal wear.
How much money can you
afford to spend? A wise con-
sumer buys the best quality
she or he can afford. Many
stores have winter -coat sales
during the fall, so you may
find a suitable, good quality
coat for a very reasonable
price. To help you stay
within your budget, set a
limit on the amount you plan
to spend, before you go shop-
ping.
Choose a color that coor-
dinates with the clothes and
accessories in your present
wardrobe. It should be a col-
or that is becoming and one
you won't tire of in a short
time.
When you are shopping,
check the quality of each
coat. Look for durable and
firm yet flexible fabric. Stit-
ching should be neat, even
and well -secured. Look at
the inner construction of lin-
ing not attached to the hem
of the coat. The stitching
should be accurate with no
hanging threads. The hem
should be at least two inches
deep and well -secured. -
Always try on the coats to
check for good fit and com-
fort. When doing this, it is
necessary that you wear the
garments you will normally
have on underneath the coat.
If you often wear a suit, wear
one when you try on coats.
There should be no strain
across the back and
shoulders when reaching or
folding your arms. The col-
lar should fit closely and lie
fiat against the back of Ms
-rietk-.--SigeverVioliftrhang
straight from the shoulders
with armholes cut deep
enough to prevent binding.
