The first item of business
on the agenda when Col-
borne
Council
met
for ita regular meeting on
Tuesday, y, 2O,1 A.a$ the
passing of a resolution peti-
tioning. the Ministry of
Transportation and Cotn-
tIoos for the interim
payment of subsidy on road
construction completed to
tlth date in the current
calendar year. Because of
increased costs over the
estimated construction of
the Robert Jewell MIuniciLai
Drain, a by=law to authorize
the levying of these extra
costs to affected property
owners was passed.
Ron Durnin, Road
Superintendent, reported
that the installation of steel
sheet piling had been com-
pleted on the Lamb Drain on
the George Wraith property
and that T.M. & T. Con-
struction, Bluevale, was ex-
pected an site by October 22
or 23,to complete the work.
Paul Baechler. of Sunset
Gold Course appeared and
spoke to council about the
problems of an entrance to
the driving range on the
north side of the township
road. The deepening of the
ditch because of the
rebuilding of the township
road now makes access dif-
ficult. Also discussed was
the acquisition of land from
.Mr. Baechler to provide the ,
necessary area for installing
a steel arch culvert west of
the golf course main en-
trance, replacing an old con-
crete culvert.
Through a letter received
from the. Ministry of
Transportation and Com-
munications, it was learned
that as of January 1, 1982,
any work being done by a
municipality that goes onto
the right-of-way of a
provincial highway, such as
drainage works, signs,
telephone or hydro service,
will require a Municipal En-
croachment Permit be
issued by the M.T.C. to the
municipality doing the work
and that a fee of ;50 per per-
mit will be required for each
application,
It came as no surprise and
brought no comment when
correspondence from the
Huron County Board of
Education and ' the Huron •
-
Perth , County Roman
Catholic Separate School
Board was read advising
that effective January 1,
1982, the respective school
levies would be payable in
quarterly payments on
March 31, June 30,
September 30 and December
15 annually.
The next. regular meeting
of council will be at 8 p.m. on
November 3.

Bert Robinson would like
to congratulate Bob
McCallum in this week's
paper for his honesty.
Mr. Robinson was walking
around The Square Monday
when he saw Mr. McCallum
pick up a purse lying on the
sidewalk in front of the Bank
of Montreal and rush across
the road into Court House
