The Blyth Community
Centre was the scene of a
Maitland Valley Con-
servation Authority birthday
celebration on Thursday, Oc-
tober 1. Present Authority
staff, municipal represen-
tatives and government of-
ficials, along with former
staff and members (number-
ing approximately 150 in all)
joined in wishing a happy
30th birthday to the MVCA.
Known today as the
MVCA, some people atten-
ding the celebrations
remember it by another
name. , By Order in Council,
September 6, 1951 the Middle
Maitland Valley Con-
servation Authority was
given the jurisdiction to
manage and develop, where
necessary, the natural
resources of the area. It was
not until 1962 that the
Authority expanded and
became : known as the
Maitland Valley Con-
servation Authority. Further
expansions in 1967, 1972 and
1976 brought the Authority's
area of jurisdiction tolls pre-
sent size, which includes the
Lucknow River watershed
as well as the Maitland
River and its tributaries.
