GODERICH SIGNAL -STAR, WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 28, 1981—PAGE 9 nt ms win twice The Goderich Bantams did well this week in OMHA play, winning in Exeter 5-2 last Wednesday night and beating St. Marys on home ice 4-2 Saturday. The combination of John Graham and Pete Willems scored -the first two Goderich goals against Exeter, with Graham netting the first one on a pass from. Willens and Willems getting the next one from Graham After Exeter scored their first goal in the second period, Goderich came back with three goals in the space of two minutes. Graham scored from Jeff LeBeau and Chris Sideris, then Trevor Erb got it past the goalie with assistance from Shawn 'Rahbek and Grant Garrow, and ;,Erb scored his second unassisted for the fifth Goderich goal Exeter managed one more The Vikes won the game and remain undefeated in league goal in the third period, but play. the Bantams hung on for the win. Rob Dunn and Rod Midgets make debut with 14 goals in two games BY TD The Goderich Midgets made an auspicious debut in Shamrock League hockey action last week with a pair of impressive victories. Wednesday, the \\ Midgets defeated Exeter, 7 - 3, in Exeter. Saturday, in their home opener, they ham- mered St. Marys, 7 - 2. Daryl Madge was the sparkplug in the Goderich victory over Exeter, scoring four goals. Linemate Keith Hallam had a goal and two assists. Single goals went to Lee Frisby and Mark Crawford. John Thompson had three assists, defen- ceman John Peters had two and Paul McCartney and Pete Stahl had one assist each. Randy Gaynor and Terry Bean shared the goaltending duties for Goderich. Brent Atthill, Steve Batten and Dave Hayter scored for Exeter. Andrew Telford scored twice and had two assists in the game here, Saturday. Pete Stahl was another two goal scorer for Goderich, adding one assist. Jeff Feagan had one goal and an assist. Hardworking Lee Frisby arid winger David Gallow had the other Goderich goals. Defenceman Phil Wood and Mark Crawford had assists. Goaltender Terry Bean had an outstanding game between the pipes for Goderich. Former NHL'e.r Larry Jeffrey and Paul Stahl have the local midgets playing a solid brand of hockey which area fans will find exciting. Home games for the Goderich Midgets are Saturdays at 7:45 p.m. They are idle this weekend, but swing back into action next Friday, November 6 when they travel. to Lucan. They will be at home the next night for a 7:45 date with Ilderton. Men's hockey league news Gear share top spot after the first week of play in the Goderich Men's Industrial Hockey League. Each team in the eight - team recreational league has played three games and the top teams lead with four points. O'Briens opened the season with a 14-3 win over Hodges but then dropped a 5- 4 decision to Holmesville. Novices win, tie, and lose this week The Goderich Novices came away with a 1-1-1 record this week in Shamrock League hockey play. Parkhill beat them 3-1 here October 17, they tied St. Marys here 4-4 on Saturday, and won in Exeter Sunday 3- 0. Kelly McDonald scored the only goal against Parkhill on WOAA meeting The Western Ontario Athletic Association (WOAA) will hold its 39th an- nual meeting at the Wingham Armouries (behind Wingham town hall) on Thursday, November 5 at 7:30 p.m. Each club in good standing is entitled to one vote per team. Before losing to O'Briens, Garb and Gear had disposed of Whetstones 8-4 and the Bedford Flyers 6-3. Green Machine also grabbed a share of the lead with a 4-2 win over Whet- stones Monday to add to their 7-5 victory over Holmesville. Bedford Flyers and Hodges are tied for second spot with three points apiece' on a win and tie in three games and Whetstones, Holmesville and Sunset have one victory apiece. Rob Standen leads the scorers with six goals and four assists in three .games for O'Briens. Tom O'Brien and Rick Sowerby, also of O'Briens, are tied for second with eight points.
