OUR PLEASURE
IS SERVING YOUR
INSURANCE NEEDS
The Pro -Life annual
meeting and pot luck slipper
was held on October 9 atthe
hall in St. Joseph's.
After a delicious meal,
Elaine Townshend was in-
troduced as guest speaker.
She gave an interesting and
informative speech on some
of the problems of the han-
dieannart -. the greatest one
being that most people never
look past the' handicap to see
the personality.
Pro -Life's emphasis this
year is on educating the
public to the pro-life issues -
namely concern for the un-
born, the handicapped and
the aged. Special attention
will also be given to the
assistance of pregnant and
distressed gids.
After the financial report,
several representatives
from local groups presented
cheques or promised finan-
cial support in the future,
along with their best wishes
for continued success.
This year's board
members are: the Reverend
Marvin Bars, Honorary
Chairman, the Reverend
Ron .Ashton, Mr. anti Mrs.
Case Brand, Ken Reidy,
Bryan Lavits, Peter Dykstra,
Richard Boonstra, Clarice
Dalton, Theresa Courtney,
Mrs. Ray Boyle, Joanne Ver
munt and Charity
McDonald.

Katimavik underway
. BY JOANNE BUCHANAN
The Katimavik program is now in full
swing here.'
For the past month, the 21 participants,
have been working on projects at the jail,
the museum, ARC Industries, the Queen
Elizabeth School and the race track.
Two housecholds have.been set up for the
participants in Goderich. One is located at
44 Stanley Street andthe other is at .109
Napier Street. Open house will be held for
the public at these two homes on October
23 from 4-8 p.m.
.Also the participants will,be billeted at
various homes in the communityfor two
weeks in November and will work with
their billets to learn specific job skills.
Katimavik is . a volunteer action
program sponsored by the federal.
government for young Canadians between.
theages of 17 and ' 21 so that they may
experience . both working skills ' and
alternative lifestyles. The participants
who are working in Goderich come from
justaboutevery province in the country.
Katimavik participants done* take work
away from other people. They do only
those jobs that would not otherwise get
done due to lack of time or money. For
exatbple, the five participants working at
•the jail are repairing the stone wall.
Others are .painting the race track fence.
Some are repairing the steps at Tiger
Dunlop's tomb. At ARC Industries and the
Queen Elizabeth School, the Katimavik
people are working with staff to help the
workshop employees and students. And at
the museum, Cataloguing is being done.
Katimavik participants are paid $1 per
day by the Secretary of State plus $1,000 if
they stay until the end of the project. Their
food and housing , is paid for by the
governfnent also. •
:Besides the two 'groups of 11 Katimavik
participants working in Goderich, there is
a group of 11 working' in Seaforth. These
three 'groups will rotate every three
months with other groups from across the
country.
There are a total of 37 Katimavik
projects in Canada with seven .,,of them
being in Ontario.

Ray Cook
wins
x25,000
Perseverance has paid off
for Ray Cook of Catherine
Street in Goderich—literally!
For the past four or five
years, Ray has been buying
two Wintario tickets every
week. He won a couple of
free books and then, finally
on the October 8th draw, he
won $25,000 with ticket
number 061235 which he
purchased from Paul Spain
of Goderich.
He just couldn't believe his
good fortune at first but it
sunk in after he picked up his
cheque at the Wintario office
last Thursday. Ray, who
works at Blue Water Body
and Fender Ltd., and his
wife Peggy, plan to spend
some of the money on a
vacation and then put the
rest away for their children,
Jason, 7 and Julie, 4.
