Huron was a see -saw affair,
with the Vikings having the -
upper hand in, the first.

scoring for the Vikings.
Plunkett's conversion of his

Vikings a 9-0 edge by the end

able to kill the clock on one
more series of downs.
_ By their play in this game,
the Vikings showed they are
not outclassed by any means
by the Panthers. The game
featured , hard-hitting but
clean football, and gave
promise of an exciting finish
to this year's football season
should these two teams wind
up facing each other In the
Huron -Perth finals.

Junior girls remain undefeated

The GDCI junior Vikings
continue undefeated in
Huron -Perth - Conference
girls' basketball, following
two more victories last
week.
Tuesday, the Vikings
outdistanced Stratford
Central 52-38. Friday, the
Vikings defeated Mitchell 51-
35, to - record their sixth
consecutive victory.
Allison Graham had 21
points, many:gf them coming
on layups following steals
from Stratford players in the
back court. Kim Fritzley
added 16 in the Goderich win
over Central. Anne Allan had
six, Mary Beth Alexander
had four, Cathy Oke and
Nancy Bugler had two
apiece, and Kristene
Stapleton had one point for
Goderich. Alexander had a
strong game in relief, of
Cathy Oke, who. ran into
early foul trouble.
' The Vikings had another
' tough test in Mitchell. Kim
Frltzley with 18 and Allison
Graham with 15 points paced
the Goderich attack. Mary
Beth Alexander had . six
points, Cathy Oke and
Kristene Stapleton had four
each, while Nancy Bugler
and Kristen Bugler had two
points apiece.
Sharon Adams and Lori
Sherbarth had 13 points each
for Mitchell.

Vikings kept the pressure on
Mitchell with a man to man
defence in the first quarter,
and then shifted to a zone
press in the second quarter.
In the second half, the
Vikings ran into some foul
trouble. The combination of
foul shots and some long
distance sinkers kept Mit-
chell close but the Vikings
held on to their lead.
Thursday, the Vikings
travel to St. Marys for a
league game. Saturday they
will take part in a tour-
nament in Kitchener.

The GDCI senior girls'
basketball team split a pair
of games in Huron -Perth
Conference play last week.
Tuesday coach John
Geiger's girls suffered their
first loss of the season, losing
49-44 •to a strong Stratford
Central, team. Friday the
Vikings rebounded to a 40-32
win over Mitchell.
Stratford got double figure
outputs from three players:
Lori Sippel had 12 points.
Shelley Sippel had 11, and Sue
Marsh had 10.
Sonja Lapainehad a game -
high total of 19 points to pace
the-Viiking 'Welke,: Andrei,'
DeWinter added :10 points.
Mary O'Neill with six, Barb
Conlan with five, and Teresa
Donnelly and Kary.i
Drennan with. two each
rounded out the GPCI at-
tack.
Stratford led 27-21 at half
time, but a third quarter
rally led by DeWinter,
Drennan and Mona Gleason
tied the score. However, the
Vikings, were unable to
contain the taller Stratford
, squad in the final quarter.
Sonja Lapaine had another
strong. gain against Mit-
chell; hitting for 18 points and
leading on rebounds.
Patti Botz had 10 Viking
points. Mary O'Neil added
four, Barb Conlan had three,
Karyn Drennan and Mona
Gleason had two each, and
Robin MacDonald had one
point. -
Loree Russell had 11 to
pace Mitchell.
The Vikings take a record
of five wins and one loss into
Thursday's game in St.
Marys. Saturday the Vikings
will travel to Owen Sound for
a tournament.
