Looking Back
Street watering duty neglected
Town employees have
been busy the past week
topping off damaged
branches of our shade trees,
the result of the big snow
storm last week.
The street watering cart \is
very often off duty when it
should be on duty. The clouds
of dust on Wednesday were
so severe that merchants
generally were complaining.
The latest rumor is that.
the Grand Trunk will double
track their line from
Stratford to Goderich dock
with oak ties and 80-p'ound
rails.
On Saturday morning,
while Curry brothers were
threshing the •grain of
Jonathan Newcombe, at his
farm on Huron Road.next to
the cemetery, a spark from
the engine was blown on the
loose grain and straw around
the machine and almost
instantly a big. fire was
blazing. In a 'very few
minutes, the whole barn was
ablaze and thethresher,
barn and season's grain of 70
acres were soon nothing- but
ashes.
Harbor Hill, which had
been the subject of com-
plaints because. of its
roughness, was given a
$1,000 'surface treatment of
stone chips and asphalt this
week.
