All minor soccer players received a crest. As well, the Giants, the top -team in the Squirt House league, were presented with awards, the Atom "A" team received championship trophies and Senior girls maintain perfect record •BY TD The GDCI Senior Girls basketball team recorded two home court victories in Huron Perth Conference play last week. Wednesday, the Vikings blasted Norwell 58 - 20, and Thursday they got by Wingham 46 - 33. The Vikings now sport a 4 -0 won - lost record. Today (Tuesday) coach John Geiger's team puts its un- blemished record on the line here against Stratford Central. Friday the Vikings travel to Mitchell. Chess club attracts, new members The Goderich Chess Club has attracted many new faces and the club would like to extend a welcome to new members and those who have returned. Doug Brindley, last year's master, got off to a good start by winning all four of his matches. Dave Weary, returning after a two-year layoff, proved too strong for both Phil Abbott and Brian Brindley. Larry Gower and Dennis Little won two games apiece and Bob Dick gained a top level position with a victory over Barry Page. In the standings, five players are tied for first in level one, Doug Brindley, Dave Weary, Larry Gower, Dennis Little and Bob Dick. Bob Fitzjames leads level two with a .667 winning percentage and is followed by Brian and Scott Brindley. Don Etue is tops in level three play while Phil Abbott, Mike Cox and Barry Page are still looking for a win. If you are interested in joining the chess club call 524-4376. Against Norwell, Patti Botz and Mona Gleason hit double figures with 14 and 10 points respectively. Three players, Sonja Lapaine, Tracey MacEwan and Mary O'Neill each had eight points. Barb Conlon and Robin MacDonald had four points each and Teresa Donnelly had two. Lapaine, O'Neill, MacEwan and Gleason provided strong rebounding. Good man to man defence by the Vikings caused Norwell to commit 10 turnovers. Helen Kilpatrick, the Norwell captain, had 11 points. • Thursday, the Vikings quarterbacked by Patti Botz, outplayed an aggressive Wingham squad. Sonja Lapaine led in by points, with 18, and rebounds, with 23. Botz had 12 points. Barb Conlon added five, Teresa Donnelly and Mona Gleason had three each, Robin MacDonald and Tracey MacEwan had two apiece and Mary O'Neill .had one `point. The leading Wingham scorer was Kay Robertson with eightpoints.
