Roy Bellinger, a resident of the village and a Conservation Officer working out of the Wingham Office of The Ministry of Natural Resources, will check, the residents' complaints Mon- day, and it is quite likely that they will trap the beaver. Bellinger stated that legally the beaver can be trapped commencing on October 25. Church news A large congregation was in attendance for the Harvest Home Service at Christ Anglican Church in Port Albert last Sunday. The ladies of the ACW had the church beautifully decorated with produce from the garden and from the farm. The Reverend Robert Crocker spoke from the sixth chapter of St. John's Gospel. The ladies of the ACW have a busy week. Tuesday is the Deanery meeting at St. George's Church in Goderich. Wednesday, the ACW will meet at the home of Anne Livingstone. Social news Harold Adams and Tom Livingstone from Port Albert attended the recep- tion and dinner for the M. Wor. Bro. H. 0. Polk, Grand Master of the Grand Lodge A.F. and A.M. of Canada in the Province of Ontario at the South. Huron Recreation Centre, Victoria Street, Ex- eter, Friday evening. This was the Grand Master's first reception since being elected to the office in August of this year. William and Marg Balk}yill of Downsview spent several days -at their sum- mer home in Port Albert this week. Saturday they return- ed to their home in Downsview where they will celebrate their 39th wedding anniversary. The BalkwilLs were mar- • ried on October 4, 1942 at the United Church, which at that time was located just south of the village on Highway 21 on the east side (St. An- drew's United Church was closed on the last Sunday in, June 1969). Joining them in the celebration will be their daughter Karen and her hus- band Barry Hutchinson who will be celebrating their first wedding anniversary. The Hutchinsons were married in Downsview United Church on October 3. Margaret Balkwill is the former Margaret Lednor who was horn in Port Albert. William Balkwill is formerly from Exeter and in 1943 he enlisted in the R.C.A.F. at Port Albert, retiring from the R.C.A.F. in July of 1964. Several geese were observed Wednesday morn- ing feeding in a recently harvested field of oats on the second Concession of Ashfield at the lake. William Sylvester and his mother, Jean from Strat- ford, spent the weekend at their cottage in the village. Harold Graf and his mother Johanna from Kit- chener, spent the weekend at their cottage in the village. Also visiting were John and Bren- da Livingstone and daughter Amanda from (Preston) Cambridge. Vi Petrie from Port Albert has just returned from a four-day bus trip to Muskoka. She encountered considerable rain while on the trip but the colour in the north is reported to be the best in the past ten years. (Photo by Cath Wooden) Tax seminars planned A series of seminars called "Tax Saving Strategies for you and your Business" designed to help businesses, professionals and in- dividuals minimize their tax payments is planned for this area in October. The fall' series of seminars are being organized under the Ministry of Industry and Tourism's Small Business Assistance (SBA) Program in cooperation with the University of Western On- tario and trine other Ontario universities. Topics to be discussed in- clude: business tax plann- ing, purchase and sale of a business, personal tax and investment matters, income splitting, shareholding remuneration and estate planning and wills. The seminars being held across Ontario will be presented by tax specialists from Ernst & Whinney, an international accounting firm. The location and dates for this area are: October 6, Ramada Inn, London; Oc- tober 8; Victorian Inn, Strat- ford; and November 11, Ox- ford Hotel, Woodstock. All registrants will receive a booklet specially prepared for the seminars. 'in addi- tion, a personal tax planning publication and a book "Tax Saving Strategies for the Canadian Investor" will be distributed.
