Town council has received 23 applications for a town assessor and tax collector to succeed the late O.W. Sturdy. Need for an auxiliary pump for the town fire brigade was stressed by Fire Arc Chief J.J. Hoggarth at last Friday's town council meeting. Work will commence shortly on the building of eight new grain bins at the Upper Lakes and Stl' Lawrence Transportation Co. elevators at the harbor. Over 100 friends, including many railroad men, recently honored W.B. Elliott, whose retirement at the and of October will mark the close of 36 years of service with theCNR. 5YEARS AGO It didn't take town council long Monday evening to decide that it had no legal right to delay demolition of the former Colborne House at the corner of Hamilton and Newgate Streets. Sigftal-Star has learned from sources within the Menesetung Property Owners' Association, that a London lawyer has been retained to investigate means by which the property owners can obtain redress for damages suffered when trees were cut at the west end of Sky Harbor Airport last March. After a recorded .vote which showed only Coun- cillor Elsa Haydon opposed, town council voted Monday evening to accept an offer from Borg Warner to pur- chase about 20 acres in Industrial Park.
