A successful cash bingo
was held September 18 at
MacKay Centre for Seniors
and bingos will be held on the
third Friday 'of each month
during the fall and winter. At
the regular meeting Wed-
nesday, the members en-
joyed a film on "The Life of
Don Messer" which brought
back many memories of
Marg Osburne, Charlie
Chamberlain and other
members of the Don Messer
group.
After the film, several
dances were performed by
the members of the Wheel
and Dealer square dance
club under the direction of
Mr. Glenn Patterson. During
intermission, Joan Hat wood
nlayed piano for a sing song
led by Margaret Alton.
Everyone is welcome to the
film "Angel in my Pocket"

The work on Hodgens
Brothers' mammoth new
store is progressing but it
will be some time before it is

After years of planning,
the first sod is to be turned
today for the new 40 -bed
wing at Alexandra Marine
and General Hospital. The
contract has been awarded
to Quinney Construction of
Byron for $423,841.74.
The British Exchange
Hotel has been sold by Mike
Rabatich of Goderich to
Harry Lavine of Toronto.
Town council has received
23 applications for a town
assessor and tax collector to
succeed the late O.W.
Sturdy.
Need for an auxiliary
pump for the town fire
brigade was stressed by Fire
Arc
Chief J.J. Hoggarth at last
Friday's town council
meeting.
Work will commence
shortly on the building of
eight new grain bins at the
Upper Lakes and Stl'
Lawrence Transportation
Co. elevators at the harbor.
Over 100 friends, including
many railroad men, recently
honored W.B. Elliott, whose
retirement at the and of

It didn't take town council
long Monday evening to
decide that it had no legal
right to delay demolition of
the former Colborne House
at the corner of Hamilton
and Newgate Streets.
Sigftal-Star has learned
from sources within the
Menesetung Property
Owners' Association, that a
London lawyer has been
retained to investigate
means by which the property
owners can obtain redress
for damages suffered when
trees were cut at the west
end of Sky Harbor Airport
last March.
After a recorded .vote
which showed only Coun-
cillor Elsa Haydon opposed,
town council voted Monday
evening to accept an offer
from Borg Warner to pur-
chase about 20 acres in
Industrial Park.

Berea -by -the -Water
Lutheran Church in
Goderich gathered Sunday
morning at the site of their
new church home at the
corner of Gibbons and
Suncoast for the official
ground breaking ceremony.
