FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY
Friends of The Library is a group of concerned citizens acting as an auxiliary
to the library, for its expansion and participation in the community.
New friends are most welcome. Ask at the library for more information, and watch
for and please support the F. 0. L» s fund raising projects.
MACKAY CENTRE FOR SENIORS

Fall activities have begun at MacKay Centre. Wednesday evenings.are '
reserved for card parties and other programs. On Friday evenings there
will be bingos, dancing and feature films. The first bingo will be held
on Friday, September 18 at 7:30 p.m. If this is well attended, a bingo will
be held on the third Friday of each month. The Entertainment Committee
are planning to have dancing on the second and fourth Fridays of each
month.
Courses in ceramics and art will begin on Tuesday, September 15. The
first lesson in Bridge for Beginners will be given on September 21.
Instruction in Crewel Embroidery will begin on September 30. In October
they hope to have the first in a series of seminars on topics of current
interest.
Members play bridge and cribbage on Mondays, euchre and 500'are enjoyed
on Tuesdays and Thursdays. More active games which may be played are
shuffleboard, billiards and ping pong.
There is an active Travel Club which meets at 2:00 p.m. on'the first
Friday of each month. Several bus trips have been enjoyed by members in the
past year.
The Quilting'Committee has not resumed, its work at time of printing,
but they look forward. to a busy season. The Catering Committee was also
very active during their first. year. They are willing to cater for groups
of up to 100 people.
There are now over three hundred members of MacKay Centre for Seniors.
'New members are very welcome. If you are interested in joining and are
over 55 years of age or wish to -inquire about their programs, please call
524-6660 in the morning or early afternoon.
