( Photo by Cath Wooden) G CI Senior Vikings edge Sarnia 7-6 BY TD The GDCI senior football Vikings defeated the Sarnia St. Clair Colts 7-6 here Friday in, an exhibition encounter that was' the first of the season for both teams. Darryl Beattie got the Vikings on the scoreboard when he hauled in a 25 -yard pass from quarterback Dave MacDonald to score a touch- down in the second quarter. The Colts put together a drive in the third quarter built around a passing attack that culminated in a major score by Kirk Nienhuis. Neither team connected on their convert attempts. The Vikings' margin of victory came on a fourth quarter single point kicked by Rob Plunkett. The Viking offence kept Sarnia under a lot of pressure late in the game but the Viking attack fizzled inside the Sarnia 25 - yard line. Viking coaches Ray Donnelly and Chris Connor felt their team moved the ball well on the ground, ind they were especially pleased with the Vikings' pass defence which allowed only four completions in 22 at- tempts. The Sarnia shotgun type offence kept the Vikings' defence off-balance, especially in the first half, but the Vikings' defensive line adjusted well as the game progressed. The Vikings begin playing for keeps Thursday when they travel to Stratford to tangle with the Stratford Central Rams. A week later they play their first home game of the Huron -Perth schedule against the Norwell Redmen.
