Vikings reached the con-
solation finals, but lost 36-27
to Stratford Central. That
game was tied at 13 at half-
time, ` but losing Tracey
MacEwan through an injury
and having three starters in
foul trouble left the Vikings
unable to hold their own
against the taller Stratford
squad.
Patti Botz with 11 and
Barb Cocoon with eight
points led the Vikings. These
two, along with Andrea
DeWinter were the Vikings'
best players in the tour-
nament.
The Vikings began the
tournament with a 30-20 loss
to . London Lucas, the
eventual tournament.
champions. The Vikings had
some shooting problems
against Lucas but got six
point ' efforts from Sonja
Lapaine and Tracey
MacEwan.
The Vikings rebounded for
a 43-24 victory over Medway
in their next game to earn a
berth in the consolation final.
Coach Geiger felt he got
super 'efforts from Barb
Conlon and Patti Botz in this
game. Conlon played
aggressive defence and was
able to convert several of her
eight steals into baskets.
Botz hit for 13 points to lead
the scoring. Conlon had nine
points.
Last Thursday, the Viking
teams, senior and junior,
travelled to London for
exhibition • tilts with London
Central and Montcalm.
The senior Vikings lost 33-
18 to Central. Sonja Lapaine
with six points and Teresa
Donnelly , with four led the
Vikings. The Goderich girls
also lost to Montcalm, but by
the second half were starting
to show some of the potential
they possess.
Although outscoring their
opposition 29-16 in the second
half, the Vikings were unable
to overcome the Montcalm
lead and lost by two points,
40.38. Robin MacDonald with
12 and Sonja Lapaine with 10
points topped the Viking
scorers.
The junior Vikings split
their games in London,
losing to Montcalm 36 34, but
dumping Central 53-19.
Against Montcalm, Allison
Graham had 19 points, Kim
Fritzley got 10 and Mary
Beth Alexander got four.
Coach Lynn Meyers felt his
squad showed considerable
poise din this close contest
It was no contest against
Central as the Vikings had
an easy time of it. Allison
Graham had 20 points, while
Kim Fritzely and Mary Beth
Alexander had eight apiece
to lead the Viking 53-19
victory.
