Lakeport
surprise t
lea s
David and Goliath went at
it again and, as usual, David
came out on top. In this
rendition, it was the
Lakeport Advertisers
playing the part of David and
McGee Pontiacs having the
dubious distinction of being
Goliath.
Game one saw the
Advertisers rout McGees 7-1
and then they, shutout
McGees in game two 30 to
take a two game lead in the
GIFL finals.
This final series in
Industrial League action
seemed a mismatch based
on their records during the
regular season. However,
the reversal appears to be
tn the clutch hitting of

am of : IFL,
cCees in finals 2-0
the Advertisers and the
excellent pitching of Simon
Langlois.
In game oneSunday night,
McGees got off to a good
start as Paul Kelly' scored
the first run after he doubled
and then scored on Ron
Sowerby's single.
This lead lasted until the
fourth when the Advertisers
came storming back with
three runs as Arnie Parker
walked, Wayne Doak
singled, Ron Corriveau
singled to score Parker, and
Al Sygrove singled to score
Doak and Corriveau. For
insurance, they scored four
more runs in the fifth as
r'a11ow. Hansen, Doak and
Kolkman crossed the plate,
Simon Langlois was the
winning pitcher, holding
McGees to five hits and
striking out ten. Ken Doer
was the losing pitcher.
Big hitters in. the game
were Langlois,` Doak and
Corriveau each with two
hits. Paul Kelly and Ron
Sowerby had two hits apiece
for McGees.
Game two Monday night
was all Langlois, both on the
mound and at bat. It was not
enough that he limited
McGees-to only four hits, but
his two -run homer in the first
innings was - all that was
needed in the run depart-
ment as he recorded his
second shutout of the
playoffs.
In the bottom of the first,
Greg Hansen walked and
Langlois then lined a home
run to left field to put the
Advertisers up 2-0.
The score remained this
way until the bottom of the
sixth when Len Kolkman
advanced to second on two
errors and went home on
Wayne Doak's RBI double.
Big hitters of the night
with two hits apiece were
Hansen, and Doak for the
Advertisers and Rick
Sowerby for McGees.,
Action resumes, Wed-
nesday night at 7 p.m. at the
Agricultural Park.'
Gord's ousted by Lakeport Ad.
Bill Gallow, Mr. Clutch in
Gord's Sports Labor Day
Tournament victory, came
back to haunt them by
knocking in the tieing run
with a triple and then scoring
himself on an infield out as
Lakeport Advertising won.
the fourth game 5-4 and their
Industrial Fastball semi-
final series three games to
one. '
This game saw the lead
change hands three times
with Gord's getting one run
in the first on a walk to Jim
Ginn, a sacrifice by brother
Jon, and an RBI single by
Dave Scholl.
The Advertisers came
back in the third with two as
Dave Mclvor singled, was
sacrificed across by Gallow,
and came home on Greg
Hansen's single. Simon
Langlois then singled, Rick
Duckworth reached first on
an error and Arnie Parker
sacrificed home Hansen.
Gord's tied it in the fifth
when Warren Watt scored
after his single, a sacrifice
by Phil Petrie and another
RBI by Scholl.
Lakeport went ahead once
again in the bottom of the
fifth as Langlois reached
first on an error and came in
to score after a double by
Parker.
Not to be out -done, Gord's
regained the lead in the sixth
Player of
the week
Simon Langlois gets the
nod as he pitched Lakeport
Advertising to a semi-final
victory over Gord's and then
stilled the big ' bats of
McGees in the first two
games of the f inals.
Honorable mentions go to
Wayne Doak whose on base
average is .600 over the last
three games, and to Ron
Corriveau for his clutch
hitting and superb catching
job.
inning, scoring two runs as
Des Courtney was on base on
an error, Dennis Williamson
walked, and both scored on
consecutive hits by Phil
Petrie and Jim Ginn,
This set the stage for the
Advertisers come from
behind victory. Ron
Corriveau tripled to lead off
in the bottom of the sixth and
Gallow then followed with
his triple. Sy Langlois
retired Gord's in order in the
seventh to preserve the win.
"It's my ball and you can't have it!" This strange play occurred Monday night during game
two of the slowpitch final series between Meneset and Cobras. Meneset won the first two
games, 12-4 and 18-2. (Photo by Cath Wooden)
