President W.P. (Bill) Burke was in the chair and 29 members were in attendance at this meeting. Branch membership chairman Comrade Rick Duckworth reported that the total membership of Branch 109 as of August 25, 1981 is 825. This total consists of 19 life members, 383 ,ordinary members (chiefly war veterans), 241 associate members (sons and daughters of veterans), 17 honorary members and 187 fraternal affiliates. Comrade Duckworth also reported that two ordinary and three associates were added to the roll during the summer. One new applicant for ordinary membership, namely, Thomas Johnston, was accepted by the floor at this meeting. The annual Decoration Day will be held at the Veteran's Plot of the Maitland Cemetery at 2 p.m. on Sunday, September 20. Goderich Mayor Harry Worsell, a member of Branch 109, will lay a wreath on behalf of the citizen in memory of those who ser- ved. The Sully Scholarship•, Committee was re -activated with second vice-president Stan Youngblut as chair- man. This committee is to finalize criteria to be used in the awarding of this sholarship. The Zone C-1 convention will be held September 27 and the DistrictC convention is slated for Kincardine. Branch on October 19. Branch 109 will host the annual Zone dance on October 10 with Wilibees Orchestra in attendance. The Branch record album chairman, Comrade Neil Shaw, reported that a pla'rto promote album sales through other Branches: in Ontario will commence by September 8. He - also reported that the album now sells for only $4.99 and is available at six retail outlets in town as well as the Legion canteen. The Branch Color Party will attend a Drum Head Service at Brussels Branch on September 13. It was reported that the Legion sign which was vandalized to the amount of $260.07 is repaired. A giant grarage sale is being planned for Saturday, September 26 at the Legion Hall. Members are asked to bring small items to the Legion on Friday, Sep- tember 18 and phone num- bers are shown in the Bulletin for pick-up of larger items being donated to the sale. All proceeds will be used to reduce the mortgage on the building. • The next general meeting is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 6. But the nutrient leeching that occurred was corrected with extra fer- tilizer, and most crops have recovered from the excess rain.
