Tug of war champs at CNE

Missouri Tug of War Team
has caured the Canadian
Middleweight Championship
at the CNE and was runner-
up
unnerup in the heavyweight
-division. This was the fourth .
consecutive year the
Thoni ale .based team
achieved these distinctions.
The team's sere and only
defeat was at the hands of
the Toronto Police. Weighing
more than a ton, the eight
policemen pulled the
Nissouri team the required
12 feet in 13,2 seconds to
again win the heavyweight
crown.

Steelers beat Lieury in nine to vin c
George Sutton blasted a
home run in the ninth inning
to give Lakeport Steel a 3-2
win over Lieury to win the B
consolation championship of
the GIFT. Labor Day tour-
nament.
Lakeport opened the
scoring in the second inning
when Carmen Fielder
doubled and scored on Lloyd
Tigert's single. Lieury.
scored two in their second
but Lakeport tied it in the
third when Simon Langlois
singled and scored on Sut-
ton's single.
Lieury had a chance to win
it in the seventh when they
had runners on second and
third with one out but
Langlois relieved Brian
MacKenzie and retired two
batters.
Sutton .won it in the ninth
with a blast into the wind
that barely landed in fair
territory. Len Kolkman
made the play of the game
with a sprawling patch in
deep centre field in the
eighth inning.
In the semi-final, Langlois
threw a three -hitter as
Lakeport beat West Corners
5.2.
Down 2.0, Lakeport scored
two in the first on Carte
Fielder's two -run double.
Bruce Bowman put Lakeport
in front with a home run in
the third. Two innings later,
Langlois.duplicated the feat.

Lloyd Tigert led Lakeport
with two hits.
In their second game,
Langlois threw a one -hitter
as Lakeport outclassed
Sarnia Reserve 8-0. Lakeport
jumped ahead 3-0 in the
