at the Dungannon Fair
While Dungannon rolled
into its 126th birthday, the'
annual , Dungannon 'tall fair
delighted area residents for
the 122nd time anti Friday,
August, 21 and . •Saturday;
August 22. .
It is estimated that 1,500 to
2,000 people graced the
'fairgrounds during .the
weekend and most events
were bigger this year than
ever before.
The new chainsaw' contest
this year attracted a. lot of
interest and inside the hall,
-there was an increase in
participants with •baked,
goods as well: Results of the
fair are as follows:

Peter Doherty, 17 -year-old
son of Frank and Isabelle
Doherty of Port Albert, has
just returned from London
where he spent two weeks at
Woodeden Camp for the han-
dicapped. Peter was in the
senior group and there were
approximately 60 in that
group. He reports that the
weather was just ideal at the
camp and the fellowship was
just great.
Visiting with Mr. and Mrs.
Jim Balkwill at their sum-
mer, home are two of their
grandchildren, Carol Anne
Bills and David Bilis of
Downsview. The Balkwills
will be returning to
Downsview later this week.

On theirway home they
visited the Welland Canal
and had the opportunity to
see a ship going' through the
Locks.
Robbie Corkum, accom-
panied by Mr. and Mrs. Mike
Beatty, and sons Kevin and
Bryce, attended the CNE on
Sunday. On Sunday evening
they attended a performance
which included the Scottish
World Festival.

Glen Weaver journeyed to
Thamesville last week to
visit his mother, Annie
Weaver who is 97 and has en-
joyed good health until a few
days ago, when she .becaine
quite sick. A recent report
says that she has shown
signs of improvement.
In the history of the village
we learn that the contract
was let to construct approx-
imately one mile of road by
passing Port Albert in 1954.
The first post office in Port
Albert was opened
November 6, 1851 and was
closed June 30, 1960.
Ball News
Next week the Port Albert
Pirates will fight it out in a
two game round robin series
with Kingsbridae and
Lucknow4 Kinsmen for the
slow pitch championship.
Games will start at 9 p.m..
and it is quite likely they will
be played in Dungannon and
Lucknow. To reach the
finals, the Pirates had to'
subdue the Kinloss team.
Kinloss took the first game
Monday night 12-5. Wednes-
day the Pirates edged
Kinloss 15-12. Friday night
the Pirates had to come from
behind and with some, solid
hitting and a home run by
Randy Maize, they beat the
Kinloss team 10-7.
The -Port Albert Pirettes
lost to North Ashfield Friday
night 20-16. This will con-
clude the season for the
Pirettes. It was an exciting
deden Camp
and a profitable•year for the
team, and of course there is
always next year.
Port Albert Bulldogs
started Sunday night
(August 301 in (=nderich ill
their best three out of five
series. They will be battling
,against one of the strongest.
teams in the league,

Port Albert tee ball -team
had to come from behind
Tuesday night, August 25 at
the Port Albert -Park to score
10 runs in the fifth inning to
defeat Dungannon 26-19.
Church news
Morning prayer was
observed at Christ Anglican
Church, Port Albert Sunday
with the Reverend George
Youmatoff from Bayfield
conducting the service. The
rector of Christ Anglican
Church, the Reverend
Robert Crocker will return
from vacation and will con-
duct the 9:30 a.m. service on
September 6.

Vera MacDonald of
Calgary is spending a two
week vacation in the village
visiting with her mother,
Viola Petrie.
Roy Bellinger, con-
servation officer from the
Wingham office, reports that
fishing for bass in the
Maitland River has ' been
good. Rainbow, the most
popular fish in this area, at
the present time are not run-
ning and it will be mid-
September or early October
before they are in this area
in any great numbers.
Ashfield Township council,
at their meeting on August
18, passed a bylaw to give
them control over public
entertainment such as
festivals, motorcycle races
and parades. Church and
small fairs won't require a
licence.
