Please remember that this
Saturday, September 5th has
been set aside for all club
champs to play off, therefore
they will have preference on
the course. Come out and
watch the final matches be-
ing played. -
Also on September 7, there
will be a Two -Ball, with tee -
off time at 3:30 for 9 holes of
golf.
And I wish you all good
golfing, as of right now I'm a
little tee—d-off with myself
as I won't be able to get out
for another week.
Sometimes it doesn't pay to
hurry to get 'out to the
course, as was the case last
Wednesday. But I should get
an `E' for effort as I struggl-
ed through 10 holes, and
have been hobbling around
on crutches ever since.
Thanks Andrew for all your
help!

C bras b at Tickers

In Goderich Men's
Slowpitch League playoff
action this week, two titles
were clinched and four
teams were put on hold until
next season.
The Cobras and
Renegades of C division, tied
at one game apiece, decided
it Monday night as the
Cobras ptisheri a cross six
runs, hi the first and held on
to win by a score of 8-3. This
victory allowed the Cobras to
advance and take on the
Tickers in a best of three
series for the C title.
Both games followed the

outcome. Late inning rallies
by the Cobras aided by Dave
Million's grand slam and
Tlnn Tohnston's solo shot
produced an 18-6 victory in
the first game.
Trailing 5-2' in , the fifth
inning of the second game,
Cobras again exploded for 14
runs in the last two innings to
seal a 16-6 victory and clinch
the C division title.
Congratulations to Keith
Allen and his Cobras for an
excellent ball season.
Carlow advances
The B division final series
. matched up theboys from
Carlow against the Old-
timers, in a best of three '
series.
The Oldtimers, . playing
very good ball, could not stop
the, top of Carlow's order as
Eric Miller hit five for seven,
Harry Kerr seven for seven,
and Mike Redmond seven for
seven with two home runs.
Carlow wrapped up the.
title in two straight wins, 14-
8, and 9-5. Carlow now ad-
vances to host the Cobras in
a best of three series to
decide who will play the A
champs.
Paper Leafs and Bulldogs
play close series, Signal out
In A division play, two
excellent series came to an
end. In_ a series that
produced three overtime
games, one of which was
called on account of
darkness, Port Albert
Bulldogs finally put Signal -
Star Paper Leafs to rest with
a 6-0 victory last Wednesday
night.
The followers of that series
could not have asked for
better ball as Port Albert
only boasted a 30-24 run
advantage in five games.
They were two close teams
all year and even closer in
the playoffs. Sometimes it's
a shame that there has to be
a loser, because neither
team was.
Meneset narrowly escapes
In the series that wasn't
supposed to last long, the
Meneset Meanies were
humbled as they narrowly
escaped tragedy at Bre hands
of Ken Duncan's Coyotes.
Tied at two games each,
the Coyotes came out to
prove themselves. Trailing
by one run in the fifth,
Coyotes Mike Sully and Dale
Duncan crossed the plate on
hits by Dan Duncan and Phil
Paquette to take the lead 4-3.
In their end of the sixth,
Meneset's bats broke loose
as Howie Barker, Ed
Mannering, Clare Charron,
and Jerry Denomrne scored
for a 7-4 lead. In the seventh,
Dick McLean and Larry
Sloon led off with hits and
scored on hits by Doug
McKeown and Bill Wedlock
to leave them trailing by
only one run with one out and
two men on base.
A somewhat controversial
call led to an out which
ultimately snuffed this last
desperate effort. The
Coyotes lost by a run and
quietly went home but the
mighty Meneset team knew
they had been there and
breathed a sigh of relief.
Meneset now hosts the
Port Albert Bulldogs in a
best of five series for the A
division championship.
Leading the series by a
game on the strength of an
11-4 victory, Meneset has
their eyes set on the overall
league championship
against the winner of the
Carlow -Cobra contest. But
then too, so do the Bulldogs.
It'll be a great series! Hope
you come out to watch.
